Default JL or Kicker 6.5 inch subs... ???

I'm looking to change the factory subs on my SRT-6. I have seen that JL and Kicker both make a small 6.5 inch sub. I'm not an audio guru so I would like some help if possible:

Well if you hear any info let me know...I already have Alpine Type R components and I have the Kenwood KVT-512 DVD/Navigation player installed. I'm just missing some bass.... If worse comes to worse I'll buy another set of components and install the mid range speaker where the sub goes and find a place to rig another set of tweeters(I was thinking on the dash like most cars do... my 2 previous cars had tweeters on the dash from factory). Then get an 8 inch or 10 inch sub. If you check out pioneer, JL, Kicker, and Rockford they have some sweet thin subs that hardly take up any room. 2-1/2 mounting depth and can even be used free aired... well thats the 8 inch pioneer. I know the other manufactures have it as well though but I'd rather put the 6.5 inch subs better. I even called JL and they said they didn't know. I even have their main facilities close to me (Miramar, FL) and it's a 5 minute drive from where I live and a 15 minute walk and I asked "can I take my car so maybe you can check it out to see if they fit" and they said no which was weird to me but whatever. Anyways let me know if find out some info and I'll do the same.

Why not buy a set, try it out and return it if it doesn't work/fit?

I've had bad experiences with returning stuff online. I only buy something if it's a for sure thing.... LOL.... everyone tells me the same thing to just buy them and try them but they're only online and if I'm not for sure I won't get them.. That's why I'm hoping someone can help.

i'll bet getting BLAUPUNKT subs for the behind the seat harness, and the 6 1/2 inch dont exactly fit, they are a bit too small ( the stocks/harness are 6 3/4) but if u get them at crutchfield, they give u a ring to make them fit for free, and i saw some very nice blupunkts on sale from 60 or something for just 40$(for a set of 2), and blaupunkt is, maybe besides jbl, the best speaker manufacturer out there.

I thought there was a reason high end retailers usually install JL audio.. it's the best..?

Im not saying that JL is bad, but as far as i know, and i know a fair bit JBL are by far the best, and blaupunkt as well as JL are very good too, i just personaly prefer blaupunks, oh and i also take back what i said before about buying them bc i canceled that order and bought more powerful alpines... i was convicned by my father who has both alpines and blaus in his car and he said that even tho alpines are 3 times more expencive its worth it, so hey, if hes paying then im not gonna argue with that

Notice that the companies either don't state the frequency response, or list something like 30-350Hz but no db listing. There's only one reason for this; the actual specs are junk and they know it. 30Hz alright - at 20db down.

Nowadays for many, volume and boom are the only issue. Of course the physics problem is that there's just not enough surface area in a 6.5" "woofer" to get flat bass below, say, 50 Hz. Even if they were "long throw" speakers, woofers of that small size just can't move enough air.

Nonetheless, a quality substitution may still be a big improvement over stock drivers any way you look at it (or listen to it, I should say), which is the real bottom line.

I know im going to sound riduculus, but buying anything with my father is like shopping with a kid, he just winds him self up as we go along, today when i talked to him ( he lives in the UK) we ended on JBL amp ( 4 channel ) 2 channels for the front doors(JBLs), bridge of the other two for a 12 or 15" sub in in trunk also JBL, then leaving the stock subs behind the seats and rewireing the stock amp ( i belive its 4 channel) bridging the 4 channels in to two and sending more than doubled power to small stock subs, and he said that if they burn he just get me JBL. I started off by telling him i want a system of mostly blaupunkt, next day he was buying me alpines, now we're at JBL, im honestly scared of tomorow.

as for the details, i can show you what we're at right now:

JBL PX300.4 ( 4 channel amp) 169 RMS @ 2ohms and and 358 RMS bridge @ 4ohms ( for sub which will be 2 ohms, so it will be higher than that but i dont know exactly how much)

JBL GTO6537 ( front doors) 100 RMS @ 2ohms (300 peak) they arent available in US yet, but they are in UK and we will get them there and he will either send them here or i will bring them my self when i come back from UK ( going for the summer on the 16th, so the installing might be postponned)

JBL GTO1202D ( subwoofer just the speaker, we're cant decide between custom box or tube) 300 RMS @ 2ohms (1200 max)

Blaupunkt San diego mp27 ( radio ) we just want something cheap and that has 2 sets of RCA, the weak built in amp wont be used so we only need a reciver of some kind that can supply something to work off and buying a more expensive radio would be a waste, its like 129,99 at crutchfield, and they include the key to pull the old one out and some harnesses.

( it wont let me post 5th picture, for the radio, it nothing fancy, u can just type it in google to see it)

So thats where we are for now, and i wouldnt be sureprised if it changed, knowing my father he will find something better, he used to be an enthusiast of car audio and its him pushing it further, i wanted something fairly simple but getting some hardcore stuff makes him feel younger again lol, and i think its that when he was younger he didnt have access to stuff like jbl or alpine and even if he did he wouldnt have the money, so i think its his way of reliving the dream, and hey, im not gonna stop him :P

Only if by "best", you mean "loudest". JBL is Harmon International's garbage, and should only be compared to Alpine and JL's entry-level equipment. The sound quality is poor vs. focal/JL/Alpine when powered by a audiophile-quality amp.

NEW UPDATE

it turns out that JBL dont know how much RMS their own stuff has, The GTO6537 that i said was only available in UK was seposted to have 100 RMS, thats what it said on Official JBL site, but when i looked at harman's website for manual for the speaker it said it has 60 RMS, and i found the same information at some German website, so it doesnt make sence to get them from the UK, instead we will get the GTO637, which is sold in US and it turns out is pretty much the same speaker, it even looks the same,

Also we changed the radio for kenwood Excelon KDC-X692, which is a much better radio than the pretty basic blaupunkt.

Also the fact that we wont need to get the speakers from UK means that the whole thing can be done before i got to Europe, and it seems that where we are right now is where we will stay finaly.

Also we decided agains using the factory amp to bridge it for the back stock subs, my father said that it will just make it worst, and that they will make "nosie" that will ruin the crisp, clear sound of JBLs, so we will just disconect the factory amp all together and not use the back speakers at all.

Exclamation Re: JL or Kicker 6.5 inch subs... ???

I had the same choice. I ended up using Kicker because of a great price I got them for locally. The install of them isn't as easy as swapping factory speakers. Most of the aftermarket subs won't fit in the angle mount that they designed. The only option I found was to cut out the stock whole and build mounting plates out of ABS and then carpet them to match. Basically turning the stock holes into a speaker box. Word of warning though, you have to keep your seats off of them because they will jump pretty far out and smack the hard plastic on the back of your seat. Over all they sound good but you will still need something more for lower end bass. The 6.5 subs are good for driving harder mid range over say, a component speaker. I used a Basslink II in the rear and it works very well for an all around system at a good mid range price. Hope this helps.

I can't say anything negative about other brands of stereo equipment. I believe you get what you pay for. I can tell you this, if you wan't some major thump, a JLHD750/1 amp, and a JL12W6, in a ported box will definately pound. Not sure what kind of money your looking to spend, but I have had a system in every vehicle I have ever owned, and this one gives me a headache. I would be intersted in hearing two 10W6's in a crossfire. Good luck with whatever you decide to get. chris

Here is one I used in the doors of my truck, worked very well:

They are from elemental designs. Have no idea if they will fit in the stock location however.
