xm radio in my crossfire?
Can it work without major modifications? I just got my car, and besides putting HID's and some led's in the car, I would like to put an xm radio tuner.
I do not care if it doesnt go inside the console, it can stick outside, as long as I can listen to my BPM.
Thanks, and have a great evening!

I installed a Pioneer Inno XM with auto dock with relative ease using the Audiovox modulator. The sound quality is far better than the wireless type.
What you need?
1. Radio removal tools.
2. FM Modulator
3. Antenna adapters (two)
4. Crimp connectors

Okay, I did some further research, and I have decided to either go with the cassette player xm adaptor, or the wireless..
I really dont want to modify or change anything by using the direct mount one. Also, it seems as though the wireless will be alot easy to set up than the hard mount.
One question I have is, does the crossfire have a cassette player? If it does, is it hidden like the cup holder? Im not used to the car yet, and so far, couldnt find the cassette player, if there is any.
Can someone help me out? thanks!

If you want to keep the stock head unit.. the only option is to do an FM transmitter.. depending on your area it can be anywhere from TERRIBLE to somewhat good... but just remember it will not be hardwired directly, so the sound quality will NEVER be "great" as if you got a new headunit.

Check out www.crutchfield.com, they have a HUGE selection of headunits.. look for what you want and something that's in your budget.
Thanks for the information. One question though, the modulator just connects to the back of the stock radio? And then I get the xm player and connect it to the modulator?
Two quetions arise from this,
Wouldnt I need to constantly charge the xm player
Arent there going to be a crazy amount of wires everywhere?

Bill,
Bill,
Damn!!! I like that alot! How is the service? How is the quality?
Also, how is it plugged into the ciggarrette port from there?
Im going to try to make mine exactly like that, but what kind of mount are you using?
Thanks!

I am 100% satisfied with the performance, It sounds as good as the stock FM or CD.
When installing I didn't want to drill any holes in the dash. I ended up fabricating my own mount using a piece of aluminum stock. This took some time as you can see the multiple bends ext. After a final fitting I sprayed with some rustoleum hammer paint. Then mounted using screws nuts and fender washers (red Arrows).
When you remove the heater vent and the single screw behind it that black panel will be loose enough to work behind. My power wire is spliced into the hot lead (key on/off) from the back of the stereo. I drilled a 5/8 hole (yellow arrow) and ran the power and antenna leads through it to the car dock.

Dang, good work there, but im mechanically challanged, as I am only 16 years old. If my dad cant do this, then I guess no xm for me.
Thanks for that though, it does help!

Joe,
There is plenty of room behind behind the factory head unit even after it's pushed back in place.Thats where I installed mine and also the power adapter for the XM to the car dock.
I ran the wire and the antenna. itself through the fire wall on the drivers side. There's a rather large rubber plug up high above the brake pedal. Then I ran the ant. wire along and under the rubber molding along the upper portion of the fire wall to the center of the two wipers. Using double face tape mounted the ant. to the lower portion of the windshield molding. It is not noticeable with the hood open or closed, and reception is good.
Hope this helps?

It's really, really easy. Also, REALLY worth it.
I solved this problem. I didn't want to do this for years but I finally did and LOVE IT. Wish I did this sooner....
Don't mess with modifications to your stock radio. Buy a Blaupunkt unit from Crutchield. It is a simple plug and play. They provide the keys and radio antenae adaptor for free. Spend 130 on a unit that is silver and matches the dash. It took me 15 min to install and I am a novice. Slide out the old radio and slide the new one in. Plug the connection into the new radio. It is that simple. No cutting wires! I took the stock radio out and put it in a box for safe keeping. Very easy to put back in if I want.
The new radio is EXCELLENT and the best 130 dollars I ever spent. Now I can play MP3 CD discs and there is a aux jack in the front for any device I want to use. The radio also matches the interior and looks GREAT! Sounds GREAT too!
My point... don't waste your time and energy finding ways to use your stock radio like I did. Just buy a Blaupunkt radio and plug it in.

Although the XM sounds good enough to my old crusty ears. Thinking back I wanted to keep everything as factory looking as possible with no visible wires. I think I accomplished that but....
If I had to do over again I'd have to give it a second though of just getting a new head unit? Originally I thought the Nav unit would be useful but I've actually never needed to use it. The Blaupunkt that blackcross mentions looks like a good alternative but I'd want something with the jacks in the rear of the unit so as the wiring wouldn't be visible.
