Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
OK I have a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Limited. I bought an Infinty Basslink II and attempted to install it myself. I connected the 8 guage power cable to the battery, I connected the remote turn on wire to my cigarette lighter, I connected a Hi-Low to one of my rear speakers, and finally I grounded the amplifier in the rear right dip (or well) of my trunk. I had the battery disconnected while all of this. When I finished and went to turn my car on, it WON'T START! I can jump the car with cables and it will run fine, but if i turn it off it won't start again. It makes a clicking sound but doesn't turn over. I tested the battery and it seems adequate. Is there any anti-theft system not allowing the car to start, if thats the case why will it start if I jump it?

If you can jump start it and it runs - you have battery issue.
Charge it up. ;) Maybe also time to replace if it is original. |
Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
Wouldn't there be signs of the battery going bad? Or could it be that I drained the battery completely dead last night? The car has 29k Miles...

Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
battery is our cars just seem to go bad or lose charge pretty easy...I would charge battery fully, and see if this fixes it...or have the battery checked at the local auto store...these cars are voltage sensitive. Good luck...

Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
Threw the battery on a trickle charger untill FULLY CHARGED, car still just "CLICKS" but no turn over...
And by the way... I unplugged my STOCK Infinity radio for awhile before I plugged it back in. It there any security lockouts because of this? And my spoiler raises automatically with I turn the ignition on... Confused... |
Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
The wing raising is an occurance that happens when the battery is low. Did you clean the terminals on the battery when you put the cables on it? Did you tighten the cable clamps to the battery. I assume the clicks come from the solenoid for the starter.

I recommend you remove the battery and take it to an auto store and have them test it. All your symptoms point to a bad battery or bad connection at the battery.

Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
Battery cables and terminals are perfect. I purchased the car less than 60 days ago, so everything is like new. I jumped the car again about an hour ago and started up fine. When it "CLICKS" the spoiler butt on lights up red, is there a reason for this? Maybe the spoiler button has a short?

I understand that you are inclined to believe that this has something to do with installing the amp, but the reality is that it is probably just a coincidence that your battery died at the same time as you decided to install the amp. Also, you stated that you purchased the car less than 60 days ago and everything is like new. Was this a new car purchase of a 2005? Regardless, it is still a 5 year old battery in the car. 5 year old batteries do, and will die. |
Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
When you jumped your car you attached the jumper cables to the posts of your battery. This in effect made the jumper battery your battery. Take the jumper battery away and it does not start, need any more clues to the problem?

Re: Installed Amplifier Now Car WON'T START?
Thanx for all your help! I will go buy a new battery. Is this why my chassis is reading postive on my voltage meter now negative, because the battery isn't providing enough ground?
