Can't get there from here...

Tuesday, my Infinity unit decided to stop allowing me to track forward on a CD... When I either turn the knob OR use the buttons below the display, the CD simply starts over at 00:00.

In other words, listening to track # 8 might take a half hour or so.

Is the unit on its way out? Should I begin the search for an upgrade? Never really been stoked with the performance of the OE unit, but it looks so integrated. Any aftermarket units that don't look, well, aftermarket?

Thanks,

The sound of the engine is still the best station...

Add two cylinders then tell me how it sounds!

Just looked in the Gallery for stereos and I see what you mean about the aftermarket look. Will be interesting to see if anyone comes up with something that look "right".

Hey Doc. Down here we basically have 3 radio stations. Oldies, talk and pop.
Can't even use all of the presets on our stock unit!

iPhone + itrip (fm radiotranceiver) + SPOTIFY = no CDs needed. Works a treat in my car. No cables.

Did you check the CD itself.
Are there any impurities, fingerprints or scratches on the surface?

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. (Digital Media Only, iPod/iPhone)

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. (CD/iPod/iPhone)

I think these, while a bit pricey, are the best match we have...and the performance is A-One.

If you decide that you don't like the aftermarket look let me know because I have a stock, non-navigational unit that I am willing to part ways with.

I just ordered one of these along with their iPod cable and Sirius sat radio package.

Kenwood - KDC-X995

It should be able to match the Crossfire instrument lighting very closely. I think i can live with the black face plate and silver trim since most of the interior trim is black. I'm in the car 2-3 hours per day and I'm going through satellite radio withdrawal. I'll lose the nav system but I gain Sirius radio, HD terrestrial radio, iPod controls, MP3 disc capability, Bluetooth phone calling over the stereo, Pandora streaming radio, an equalizer, and electronic high pass filtering of the front speakers among other things.

On the downside, I'll need to run a satellite antenna cable to the roof, an iPod cable to the console box, and a microphone cable to the steering column. I'll also need to mount the Sirius receiver and an interface box somewhere.

Happens with all CDs.

The Kenwood unit is sharp and definitely something to consider. For now, it's on the back burner as I rarely listen to CDs... only on drives >1 hour...

Is there a way to maybe reset the unit?

I had that problem with mine as well. I used a Maxell "Thunderon Brush System" lens cleaner and the system worked fine afterwards. It's under $9 at amazon or Best Buy.

I guess it's still fine but shortly afterwards I purchased and installed a Sony DSXS300BTX digital media receiver. I uploaded my entire music collection on to my computer, downloaded the files on an old iPhone and keep the iPhone in the storage drawer of the media player. No further need for the CD's, CD player nor do I need to carry around an iPod. Another great feature is the voice recognition for artist/album selection and phone operation. Great feature with 250+ artist/ 3000+ songs on the playlist. No need for an external mic either.

Have you tried/thought about doing a battery reset, and disconnecting your battery for an hour. I know it resets all presets in the headunit...maybe that will help with the CD.

I have found that occasionally a CD will get stuck in mine, but it is only with my CD-Rs that are really old. Any purchased CDs or newer CD-Rs don't have any problem for me....but that is onyl a problem ejecting the CD not actually changing tracks.

Mystery problem fixed itself... Went out to my car today at lunch and popped a CD in. Goes through all the tracks just fine.

I noticed that on long drive the CD player gets hot and overheats. With the temps being the way they've been, It wouldn't suprise me if that was your problem.
