Where to mount a Satelite Radio Antenna
It is best for it to go on out side of vehicle, but if you want you can put some up in the front dash. If for some reason you get any static you would need to place it on roof or back hatch area.

Mine is on the the hatch. I actually prefer the look of the car with the antenna there than with it not. I will take a picture and post it later today.
I have the really tiny GPS and XM antennas mounted inside the front windshield between the vents. They're not obtrusive at all, and I have not had any reception problems.

I have mine mounted in the same spot, except a couple inches forward, on the metal. How do you have yours mounted? Is it on there with tape or velcro?

mighty,
The instructions for my XM radio made it sound like the antenna uses the metal of the roof to enhance the signal. It stated that the antenna be placed something like at least 12" from the edge of the roof. I have mine mounted about an inch from the edge and it works fine. I'm assuming yours is working OK even though its mounted to glass?
bmerfan,
I ran my wire in through the grommet found at the top of the hatch. Then the wire runs through the headliner, the trim around the rear side window, down behind the seat belt, under the sill plate trim, then up under the dash, and out the glove box door where my Roady2 is mounted to the right hand center vent. The wire is hidden the entire way. Took a little while, but it looks good.

We just completed an install on a customer's xfire. I ended up placing the xm ant inside the glass, in between the blk plastic of the third light and the interior trim. I like getting sat ants as high up as possible. One of my personal cars is an Acura Legend with a sirius ant stuffed in the dash just below the windshield- doesn't work so well - if the car is traveling northwest and the sat it's trying to see is in the southeast then that big grounded chunk of roof gets in the way. The third light location allows the ant a 360 deg view much lower on the horizon. As far as ground plane issues- it theoretically shouldn't work as well without , but in practice it doesn't care much.

We also did a Bel RX75pro radar/laser detector with laser diffusers on the same car. Let me tell you, it worked perfectly. We mounted the diplay into the headliner, above the domelights. The (2) front diffusers went into the front grill on custom built metal brackets, bolted down to factory bolt locations. Here are a couple pics to look at.
jjarocki; the third light I was referring to is the center brake light. You have to disassemble the plastic trim around the rear window to get to it... but it by hiding the antenna in the light under the glass it is totally hidden from view, still maintaining excellent performance.
i just installed it on a roadster.
i put the antenna in the middle of the top of the windscreen.
if you are facing the car,
right above where the rear view mirror is stuck on the windshield on the thin metal part of the car.
i ran the wire inside the rubber strip that runs along the top of the windscreen and down the same rubber strip to the inside of the car.
very easy to do and looks good.
if my description sux i can take a pic for you.
