Don't have a radio code. Gawd help me !
I'm really starting to suffer now.
I changed my battery a couple of days ago and would you know, they'd installed a code on the flipping radio, didn't they ? So now I can't play my music anymore. I can't believe it ! I mean whose stupid idea was this anyway ? The guy who sold me the car didn't saying anything about needing a security code. He certainly didn't give me one. So now I'm stuck. No music, no nothing. Why do they need a security code for a flipping car radio anyways ? I mean if someone had stolen the damn thing I'd have been no worse off than I am now, would I ? Sorry about about the rant, but I'm totally cheesed off at this point. I can't believe I'm gonna have to shell out for a new radio because of a stupid code. |

Hi,
is this the standard fit head unit or an aftermarket unit?? Im guessing its aftermarket as the standard Infinity model doesnt have a code. Why dont you pull the unit out of the dash and get the model numbers etc ( sometimes people even write the code on the casing!) and hit google for some suggestions. |
Re: Don't have a radio code. Gawd help me !
Yep, just the bog-standard infinity model. Just went out and checked it.

I'm seeing a lot of potential for some road rage activity here. I just gotta have some music.

So, what is the indication that you need a code ?
These stock head units sell on Ebay and from recyclers all the time and I have never heard that they need a code. |

I checked the manual and apparently the code number is supplied on a separate card which the buyer was supposed to "keep in a safe place". How smart is that ? This sucks worse than lemonade and dog's pee mixed together. |
Re: Don't have a radio code. Gawd help me !
Just thought about something else. If I put a black radio in there, that would totally ruin the decor wouldn't it ?
Good Lord. I don't think I should even be driving the car in this state of mind. |

Have you tried contacting a Chrysler dealership in the UK? I thought I had this problem because my radio would not operate, so I tried to get a code from the dealer that sold me the car. They said that the European cars needed a code, but the American models don't need one, so I came to the conclusion that my radio was toast. I believe your best course of action would be to contact Chrysler ... or put your headphones on ;)

To get the code for the radio you may be able to contact Harman Becker who was the OEM supplier. I don't know what Harman has done with that group, however the process is the same as the Becker High Speed Nav units sold in the aftermarket in Europe as they are the basis for the Harman Kardon Traffic Pro that was sold here in the U.S. years ago.

How did you sort things out when you had your problem ? Did you talk to Chrysler or did you buy a new radio ? Does this mean that even if I bought a new radio it wouldn't work because I live in Europe and not the good old U S of A ? And why do we get to have a security code and the Americans don't anyways ? Not like Europe has a monopoly on car crime.
As far as an aftermarket unit working in your car - I would think it would, as the security only locks the the head unit and not the amp - but I am guessing on this - you might want to verify that with some people that know more about the Euro car stereo units. Wish I could be of more help - good luck. RL Edit - Infinity mentioned Harmon Becker ... maybe this web site might help http://www.radio-code.co.uk/becker-radio-codes.html |
Re: Don't have a radio code. Gawd help me !
Yea, yank the head unit out and see if someone scrawled it on the side.
It MIGHT be that the default code is the last 4 or 5 digits of the serial number and was never changed. Either that, or try 1 2 3 4 or the other suggestions in this thread. I'm at a loss here - maybe some local car audio shop or dealer guys can give you some idea of what the default code would have been. It is very likely the factory default was never changed. |
Re: Don't have a radio code. Gawd help me !
On my Acura MDX I simply called the Acura dealer and gave them the serial and model number on my Stereo unit and the told me the unlock code over the phone.
Good thing I wasn't the criminal who stole it I guess ;) |

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions. I'll give them a shot and see how it goes.
