some shows fall short

Ive only been doing the car show thing for about 2 years and have started to notice that (we) really are at the mercy of whoever they (show sponser) decides to pick as a judge. This last weekend I participated at a show that had 146 entries. The only other car close to mine was a honda s2000, other than that it was the garden variety of some very nice vintage OLD school hot rods. The awards were for top 25. Im not crying sour grapes because the winners really did have fantastic cars that were enjoyable to check out. The thing that bugs me is the judges. From what I saw, they were comprised of some good ol boys and simply milled around with what appeared to be a yellow post it note and a pencil. The judging went from 1130-130 and I sat diligently by my car only to watch them fuss over what appairently gave them a good feeling about their past..my car didnt even get looked at! The wierd thing was that I saw this happen to many others around me too.

Just seems the professional and polite thing to do would be at least spend a few minutes with every entry and just talk to the guy.

Sounds about normal for a sponsored car show. I entered my Crossfire once, they put me in with all the modern day Chrysler/Dodge muscle cars. I asked why, a judge said they go by nameplate. I explained it was an import, post 1992 class they had created. They didn't care, they knew who they wanted to win.

A 'Cruize In' is really a better place to have fun and look at cars.

I was at a show this year like that but it was participant judging. Most of those are done by the buddy system etc. and take the fun out of it. I have a show this coming weekend and hope I do well. It is an all Mopar show so we will see!!:)

Seems to be the norm. I bet you had more people looking at your ride than most of the winners.

I attended a show last spring that had a category for attendee favorite. Seeing the people all write down my number and talking with them, I was sure I would place in the top 3. Needless to say I didn't. When I asked how many votes I got, I was told "...none..."
