gas prices are ridiculous...
We got gas today in my wifes "pig", urr, Buick Ranier at Costco and it was $2.70 for regular and $2.90 for premium. I've been using their gas for a couple years now w/o a problem, check em out.
IIRC, last year the highest premium went up to here was $3.45.
Yesterday on the 10 o'clock news they showed one station in Brooklyn Heights (New York) that had premium for $4.50 a gallon. Of course not all the other stations were that high, but they're near that.
I paid $2.63 the other day for regular here in Jersey (fill up my Accord). I think premium was $2.85.

France:
1,35 Euros by liter for some RON 95
so that makes 1,66 usd by liter
so that makes 6,3 usd for a gallon...
So, if you are out of gaz, it's 100 Usd to fill up the baby.
We try not to go to the gas station when she is in a big need... but we must, cuz she won't move if she is out.
But we consider ourselves lucky, because being in a Crossfire is a real pleaser, so we can't say we put gas for nothing, it's for our pleasure.

I paid $3.17 here in upstate New York for high test. You just got to love the gas companies. The way they F*** us and there is not a darn thing we can do about it, but like how it feels.
One thing for sure the government is no help, yes they are help, they help themselves and to hell with us the tax payers.
What we need is a change.
God Bless the U.S.A.
I wonder what Bush gave away to China this time, he already giving our jobs to them.

Just my 2 cents. It looks like commodity traders are as much to blame as anybody else. Gas is $3.09 here in GA due to the "summer driving demand." Pretty funny because reserves are so high. I also heard the blame go to our limited refining capability. Seems like the oil companies could really help by building refineries.
The switch from MTBE to ethanol is also causing prices to increase. The gas stations have to pretty much run their tanks dry so that they get the MTBE out of the tanks before adding the ethanol additive fuel. So at some point individual stations will actually run out of fuel to sell for a short period of time. I heard on the news this morning that there were some stations in the Philly and Wilmington, DE areas that were out. Ethanol is also more expensive to produce and there may be short supplies. There may also be some disgruntled cattle wondering where all their corn is headed.

91 octane (the highest octane we get in california) is now $3.22.

Folks face it. Gas Prices may bounce up and down a bit, but the days of cheap gas are over. Prices are going north from here on out in a significant way. This is not the 70's where we had a consortium of oil suppliers make a conscious decision to limit gas production thus causing shortages and price hikes. This price increase is basic supply and demand. The supply has not significantly increased, and we've got two countries (China and India - the world's 1 and 2 most populated countries by the way) who's economies and, to some extent, political systems have finally joined the 21st century. I just got back from India last week from my annual meeting in Mumbai (Bombay). I was keenly watching what was going on there in terms of auto's and its amazing. Cars sold in India in the past were usually less than 100hp. Think Euro cars from the 50's/60's. In the three years that I've been visiting, I've watched the number of higher powered cars (100+ hp) increase dramatically. The potential market for auto ownership is huge and the only real thing holding folks back from getting one is the cost of fuel, poor roads (they've just completed their first "true" highways - a la USA in the 50's) and traffic. People are moving further away from their jobs - recall the post world war two migration in the USA? Well its happening in India now. So make the correlation with the boom in Autos in the US during our own "spreading out period". Needless to say, they will be buying cars in big numbers and that means competition for oil and that means higher prices all around.
Gas prices are ridiculous! They are ridiculously low in this country and we've benefited from that fact for years. And unfortunately, we've become blind to the fact that our way of living is very much based on cheap energy. Clearly we all love our cars, and the freedom that they offer. But the issue is bigger than that, the challenge now for us is that our economy (location of housing, production and distribution facilities, entertainment/recreation, etc.) is based on widely available and relatively cheap petroleum. A simple challenge. I grew up in NY (city and LI) where I used to be able to walk to stores from my house to buy staple goods (food etc.), how many of you can walk to a store from your residence, in a reasonable amount of time, and buy those things that you need to live daily? I'll bet very few of you respond "I can". Petrol has shaped our communities and our lives.
I believe a lot is going to change and sooner rather than later. So when you fill up your tank and get really pissed off, remember that you are pay only 50 - 60% of what our friends in Euro and Asia are paying for same thing.
Ridiculous, yes, it's ridiculous that we are complaining about 50 years of cheap gas.

Sorry guys...didn't mean to rant, but this issue is really bugging me...particularly when my neighbor complains about gas prices and he's got 3 rolling living rooms (Hummer, 2 suv's) in his drive way and the only off roading he does is when he rolls across his lawn when he misses the entry to his driveway.
Sorry...I love cars, I love the enthusiasm of this group, but I think there's a bigger story out there than the oil companies are ripping us off.
