What's that hole in the trunk?

When you lift up the bottom and view the tire pump, on the right is a compartment about the size of a tissue box. What is suppose to go there?

That is where I put my tire plug kit, but I think it is for a first aid kit in the Benz.

So from the factory it was empty?

I keep a tire plug kit, pressure gauge and a few select tools in mine...

It's for your book of prayers when you have a flat, your stranded out on some lonesome highway and Chrysler Roadside Assistance doesn't give a poop.

I bought a Crossfire First Aid kit from a bloke in the UK. I also have one for a MB 320. I part with one of them soon. If so I'll post it on the forum.

That's where the manual was stored during shipment. I have a small first aid kit in there now while the manual resides in the glove box.

The first aid kit is at the trunk wall, beneath the latch (longish black bag). Attached with a velcro band. As well as the warning triangle. Therefore in Europe the hole is empty too.

CHXF:

Does your first aid kit look like this one?
By the by, this doesn't fit well in the hole in the trunk. Our US cars do have an indention on the opposite the license plate in the trunk. That must be what you are describing.

Do any EU folks know where I can get a hazard triangle to finish out my set?

Yes, exactly. I quickly went down to the garage and took some pic to show how it looks like (place, velcro, triangle). Taking a picture from the triangle with the flash reflects everything. Without flash, it's blurred (long exposure time). But you can recognize the function...

It's a MB item. If you like I can take a look around, get one and send it to you. Regular triangles are buyable everywhere for few $. But this one is a special MB thing.

Thanks! That clears up a mystery.

Please excuse the slight misunderstanding. My U.S. spec car did not come with a first aid kit. In fact the area where the first aid kit chxf has pictured should go does not even have the velcro straps for one. When the car was delivered my manual was stored in the right hand pocket under the trunk floor. I now keep a cheap drug store first aid kit there.

That's normal. US models don't have neither first aid kit nor triangle. It's because in Europe you must have those things in any car (by law), the EUR models are equipped with.

Well at least on the '04 models that area is where the jumper cables went. So I kept them for my '05 since that area was empty. Just to let you know the '05, I guess did not come with anything. :(
