just wanted to say hi
^ oooh simmer down ... HDDP races on race tracks and has plenty of competitive spirit i assure. he just has very strong feelings on street racing as it puts a bad reputation to any form of racing, legal or not.
you must be very young grbudd.. your rashness reminds me of a stormy mind i may of had like five years back...
enjoy the forums.

You are what many of the original forum members were concerned about when DC started dropping the prices on the Crossfire. People like you would be able to afford one and end-up on this forum !!!
Enjoy the forum, my bets are that you total your car before the year is up... Any takers ?

The Crossfire has got to find it's place amongst the street folks, if it don't it'll never be more then a flash in the pan. Like all the past and present cars that roll off the tips of many a car guy's (or car girl's) tongue, the Crossfire must be at the red-light, ready to crank it out if challenged, setting it's self in the minds of the young and old of this generation as a car to be reckon with. The car cannot live off it's looks, it has got to be seen pushing the limits out on the street. Otherwise in the very near future people will not remember a car called the "Crossfire," I know you are out there on the track doing what most wish they could do, and that is race, but for common drivers ( some very special folks) it is the red-light race that makes their lives worth living. They spend big money on their cars and have some of the safest machines on the road. They love their cars and take great pride in being seen in a car that others say upon spotting one "Wow there is a car that can kick azz." For the Crossfire to reach the highs of the most famous muscle cars from the 60’s and 70’s it must be a street racer, not a beauty queen. Parts must be made available for the street racer, and secrets concerning “How To” must be shared with the street racer, other wise our car is dead in the water and in the minds of many a person.
Note: Just this week I was at the local salvage yard digging around for MB parts. Found me a MAF and throttle body connecting rubber hose for $10.00 dollars, have no idea what type of MB vehicle it came from but the flex hose was worth every penny if I should care to move my MAF. By the way what do you think about placing the MAF out in front of the air filter, the more air rushing pass the sensor the more gas it’ll feed to the engine, “right?” You get the idea, now what do you think?) Anyway back on subject... The guy at the yard sees the car and says “That’s one of those Crossfires, I hear those things will really kick azz (with a big smile on his face)… and I look him straight in the eyes and say “yes they will.” That is how this car will be remembered and it will also be the reason people in the future will seek out the Crossfire.

Unfortunately all these damned computers and sensors are intertwined. Not like the old days when you could use a screw driver and timing light...
FirebasedD dumping more fuel in will actually make it slower if more air is not dumped along with it... the air fuel ratio has to be around 13:1 to make max power and maintain safety at wide open throttle... dumping more fuel in will cause a rich condition and raw unburnt fuel will dump out the exhaust ports... nothing gained...
design a better flowing intake, the MAF/o2 will see more air going in the engine and throw in the right amount of fuel needed to produce max power with it...
speaking of modding the XF... i'll have a nice project coming i will be posting pics of soon...

HDDP... the car should be running at 14.7:1 at part throttle... thats the ratio for maximum efficiency... however it is quite a bit too lean to run that lean at WOT condition as EGT temps would be extreme...
i am very tempted to weld in a extra o2 bung to put in my wideband o2 sensor in it so i can see what my stock unmodified XF runs for AFR at WOT... i would be shocked to find it at mid 14's at WOT, as it would mean the cooling system is extremely good in the XF (have to cool the bottom of the piston with a oil jet to reliably maintain that kinda temp) and the special coating on top of the pistons mentioned in the manual is excellent.. may very well be.
hmmm

Woody, who's car is completely stock showed 14.7 AFR at WOT until the engine cut at 5,000 rpm.
Mine showed 14.4 at WOT until the 5,000 rpm cut off. Mine is a different story though since I have some mods, no cats and a powerchip, etc. etc.
Granted, I realize that ideal AFR for this engine should be 12.5 -13 range for optimum power. But MB has manipulated the software to meet air quality standards and set the ratio very high.
Until this can be changed, I am guessing we're being robbed of about 10 hp.

This engine management system is a completely different beast than any other car...

First of all I'm not trying to **** you off, I'm voicing my opinion. It has nothing to do with age or what I can afford. You don't know me from a hole in the wall so your assumptions are just that. The car is made to be driven and have fun with. We all have our own perspectives on what that is. If you look at the world as a whole any one with half a brain can figure out that any one can buy anything thing want. That is because the car companies will finance anyone to make a profit. Case in point, the woman at the grocery store that buys food with food stamps and then goes out side and gets into a brand new Escalade. Don't tell me what people can afford or not and blame MB for lowering prices. I paid cash for my car, this is not important, but if I wanted it bad enough I could have got it or something more expensive with no money. And as far as me wrecking my car I'll take that bet. This car is my baby and nothing will happen to it. And this forum was created for everyone not just pompous people like hddp and others who think they are better than everyone else. Maybe more people like myself should be on the boards to give our opinions and views that differ from your elitist attitude.
Come on HDDP, you said something below about "frying the street racers", that pretty much on the attack. Like GRBUDD said, if the racing is done on the freeway, but only the 2 racers are present, he doesn't have a problem with it. Honestly, neither do I.
But, when the race progresses to the stage where the racers are racing next to my son's van, with my new granddaughter inside, then it has to stop (it can continue someplace safe instead).
I would hope the street racers would feel the same, even GRBUDD. Sorry GRBUDD, but I think you have friends and family and you DO care.

Believe it or not this is a great thread, anytime someone just drops onto the forum and says "hi" then ends up with a thread that has over 35 postings and over 486 hits, cannot be all bad... outstanding... hooah
"Street Racers"... what can I say... it's all about speed baby, you stay in your right of way and I'll stay in mine, if I get there before you do I win... it be the next red-light or hell it's all the same because we're still on fire... bottom line is these cars are magical, heck their even named after the most powerful spell in witchcraft "Firebase", maybe that could explain the instant love affair people have with these cars. Witchcraft?? Sounds like a new thread to me...

I was going to post a response that included photos of dead bodies and destroyed vehicles as a result of street racing, but I decided it was a waste of my time and effort. But why should I give a crap if some idiot kills themselves ? BECAUSE THEY RARELY DO IT ALONE... THERE IS ALWAYS EITHER A PASSENGER (S) OR ADDITIONAL VEHICLE INVOLVED.
Have you ever seen one of these idiots make a post that said "I RACED MYSELF DOWN HIGHWAY 95 AND DIDN'T SEE A CAR FOR MILES, THE ROAD WAS CLOSED TO OTHER TRAFFIC AND I HAD IT TO MYSELF"...
The next time you watch a auto or tire commercial look at the fine print at the bottom of the screen "professional driver on closed course"... Do you think they just put that there out of the kindness of their hearts ? Hell no... It's because in 1984 three teenagers were killed in an auto accident and their lawyers took the auto companies to court and won a settlement of 135 million dollars saying that the kids were doing exactly what the commercial showed... thus the current commercial disclaimer...
I give-up arguing this point... If you want to race, do it on the track with professionals...

Go to a track if you have the itch...
