A bunch of folks have had their covers painted. ACRISPY!, ICHON, REDCROSS...are just a few. I think most had theirs done by paint shops. See if you can find photos in the galleries of those listed above and shoot them a PM if necessary.

I had mine done. As long as you use the correct additives for the type of plastic we have it is just regular paint. Mine was done in correct alabaster and red.

Won't just regular engine enamel work fine for this?

Re: engine cover help

You need an additive to allow the paint to move/stretch with the plastic. Otherwise it will crack and flake off.

I painted mine as well, took it to a body shop and had it painted for under $100.

Your painting plastic not metal so regular engine paint wont work as well. You'll need actual body paint.

yea that is what i wanna do with mine but i want black on the outside and red in the middle. does anyone know how to prep the plastic. the paint and plastic bond is what i used on my jetta, but it was just plastic plain black plastic... no fancy silver finish. how do you prep that silver for paint.

You guys do realize that 25 years from now, some so called "judge" will be taking points off your car at some car show for not having the correct intake cover.
But until then, enjoy em. They look great redone.

You can always just repaint it again, I don't think mine will stay clean that long anyway.

You just need to do a light sand before painting to give the new paint something to grab to so the new paint will stick better.
