So what's the deal?

I have fallen for this car. But have not purchased yet.

What is the problem with this car? Why do they not sell?

Tell me the pitfalls. Or talk me into it.

I look forward to honest responses.

Thanks

;)

If I could just get it up to speed to travel the interstates, but no mom say's I have to say in the neighborhood. Oh well I plan on putting those big exhaust on it and 22 inch rims with a kick'n stereo and a body kit with neon lights. I'll be the coolest kid in town.

Not much of anything wrong. Just highly impractical. Beautiful, impractical cars are usually made in limited numbers.

~ a chrysler name plate... 2 seats... and a 36k msrp. :) and has harry said... impractical (for most).

its the germany engineering that made my choice easy. as well as an extremely unique car.

the best kept secret as many will say. especially at the current give-a-way pricing.

Re: So what's the deal?

The car may be impractical if you have many passengers with you or if you're going to home depot to pick up plywood. It all depends on who you are. I'm finishing college and I'm usually traveling by myself so the car is perfect for me. If you decide to buy the car, you'll be very happy with it and the amount of looks you get with it. I've enjoyed every minute i've spent in the car. It's a blast to drive and it makes you feel good when everyone says how nice it is. Good luck with your purchase.

Re: So what's the deal?

This is the second summer I have been driving my Xfire and have not had any problems so far. I really love this car and I hope to keep it for many more years. So much fun to drive and everywhere I go it gets a lot of attention.

If the emotion is there then act on it, you will not regret it.

I've had lots and lots of cars but this Xfire is near the top maybe even #1 for me. I have fun with it, at current prices what's out there is twice as much $'s for the same BANG!!!

1 Attachment(s)
You could purchase the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren for around $450,000.00 or...

Attachment 2429 Click to enlarge.

You could save around $420,000.00 (and the cost of several speeding tickets) and get a Crossfire.

O.K. it's not a completely fair comparison. What do you expect, I'm not a millionaire and I'm biased!

Re: So what's the deal?

Love my convertible.
Zero buyer's remorse, zero mechanical problems at 17k.

A headache faced by designers/owners of all little sports cars is: What about the spare tire? The choices (all of which suck):

Donut "space saver". Can't do that on the Xfi, since the rears are larger than the fronts. Plus they suck.

Full-size spare. They always hog PRECIOUS trunk space, whether they ever get used or not. (Can't do it on our cars;again, we'd need a 20 AND a 19.)

Run Flats. Loud, really expensive. Did I mention loud?

The Xfi solution? A can of goo, a mini-compressor, and a good luck rabbit's foot.

Re: So what's the deal?

The lack of sales has nothing to do with the quality of the vehicle. A used SLK320 with 40,000 miles runs over $40k. The Crossfire is the same car, except it looks way better and is way cheaper brand new. The interior surfaces are cheaper than a Mercedes, but the styling is superior IMO. There's no comparing the gauge cluster. Crossfire is much better. I was considering a used SLK320 when I bought my xfire, and it was a total no-brainer for me. I love it.

I think the lack of sales is due to "Chrysler sports car". That phrase seems to boggle peoples' minds. Chrysler would have needed to do much more advertising to overcome that hurdle. I guess they decided to not make the attempt.

All I can say is I've had my xfire for a year now and absolutely love it. If I was planning to sell it I might be concerned about the resale value, but I don't have any such plan. Whatever price you can get an xfire for will be well below the quality you'll get.

Re: So what's the deal?

Pretty much covered everything above:

Impractical if:
  • Daily driver on rough roads - no spare.
  • Typically carry more than one person on trips.
  • Have not learned to use all mirrors to drive and/or have poor spatial awareness.
  • Bad knees, horizontally challenged, very tall, long legs.
  • Carry lots of luggage, more than one set of golf clubs, pizza delivery job.
  • Afraid of attention, spooked when people stare at you, poor conversationalist.
  • Ricer looking for a new ride with lots of options to junk it up!
Practical if:
  • You don't care what people think, live life by motto "vive la difference".
  • You carry a mobile phone, road repair kit/knowledge for tires.
  • Your other vehicle is a paid for, well maintained, load hauling capable.
  • You take normal/good care of your vehicles.
  • Want the quality of a nice sports car but don't want to pay outrageous price for it.
  • You pay attention to the CROSSFIREFORUM and the good advice you get here.

This vehicle has no more problems than any other cars out there. It's a 2 seater by Daimler/Chrysler, people don't trust it, because they don't know it.

Even with my problems, when this car runs good, its the best ride I've ever owned...

The only issue? Finding a real certified tech that knows these cars.

Re: So what's the deal?

The car is totally fine. The "deal" is the name on the hood. Buying one from the dealer is bad enough, but having to get service done at the dealer can be a nightmare. Very few dealers are up to it. Otherwise...the car is incredible.

I can come up with 99 reasons to buy this car. I love it.

The down side is the service department (Chrysler) that knows nothing about OUR CHRYSLER. Because it was built in Germany, not Detroit. On the flip side, the service department (Mercedes Benz) that knows plenty about our cars refuse to work it (under warrenty) because it does not have a tri star on our hood.
