Yeah. the price of oil is down to $64/barrel

I was driving locally and noticed super unleaded gas in my neighborhood is as low as $2.75. The way the oil prices are going, it should go down even further. Whoever said it will never go below $3.00? It only gives me more excuse to get my XF on the road. Enjoy.

That's because summer is over, so the oil empire probably decided to drop the gas price a bit, but now that winter is on the horizon, who knows how much heating oil will cost ya.
Next summer $3.30 might seem cheap, that's when I figure they might go for $3.70's or about that. Here in California gas is still about .10-.15 higher then everyone else. Time will tell.

Actually I saw a video on MSNBC where an analyst stated that the prices would be dropping over the next 5 to 10 years to as low as $0.99 in some places (regular).

I'll wait and see... but it would be nice. :D

(*wanders off looking for the video link*)

Several articles on MSNBC also point to dropping gas prices in the near future.

When I moved back to Maryland from NJ in 1999 regular was 85 cents a gallon in Marlton and they pumped it for you.
I read today that OPEC is now concerned that the price might drop too fast. Boy they sure weren't concerned when we were getting screwed at the pump for hurricanes that were supposed to happen but didn't. Also heard that as of Friday states can start selling winter grade gas which is cheaper to produce, we should see it go down even more in the next few weeks.

Gas prices are down because we have major elections in November. Both the House and Senate are up for grabs. Don't get used to the low prices they won't last long.

funny thing is when gas prices are up it's Bush's fault, but the liberal media doesn't seem to say anything about it when they come down.

Jeeze, $8.45 a gallon? And people aren’t up in arms? Gotta be a better way to get revenue…

very true, here in the uk we get stiffed with everything. if you think things are dear in the USA, try and buy things here its a joke. count yourself lucky your petrol doesn't get to the prices here.

about $100 to fill me tank.

Screw that! I think it's time you guys in the UK have an uprising, no wonder they banned guns in your country. If we had $8 gasoline the big boys in the corporations will be getting lynched!
Yet another reason to not let the government control what types of weapons we own.

Re: Yeah. the price of oil is down to $64/barrel

they tried to protest about it and block all the oil stations but all was happening was they where hurting them self having no petrol to go anywhere and the oil company knows this that’s why they don’t care...the government in the uk are to blame as with every $ on petrol spent they take 70% in tax.

Re: Yeah. the price of oil is down to $64/barrel

Lowest I've seen here in SC is $2.27 for regular - but diesel is still $2.69 so the F350 is not going anywhere soon.

As far as high prices in the UK or the rest of Europe - yes they are higher - but how many miles do they drive? The ol USofA is just spread out to heck and gone.

Trip a few years back while visiting my sister who was stationed at Rhine-Maine AFB near Wiesbaden in Germany. Left early am in Mazda 626 with 5 people on board, heading south, we went through a corner of Austria to Switzerland then Lichtenstein, then we had lunch at Rhine Falls (a town but don't remember if that was Switzerland or Germany) then headed toward France. Had late dinner in Strasbourg then back to Wiesbaden for the night. For those not counting, thats FIVE countries in one day, and we were just driving around sight seeing, not really trying to make time! Here, its tough to make 5 states!

Added to the size of the US is a total lack of alternatives so we are stuck (at least for the present) with gas as a power source. Good thing it is as cheap (relatively speaking) as it is!

I think a more meaningful measure would be how much the average US family spends on fuel in a year vs those in the UK, France, Germany etc? This would tell me a lot more than what the price of gas is. Anyone ever seen this statistic anywhere?

Re: Yeah. the price of oil is down to $64/barrel

just to and from work in the UK, i spend about $500 a month on petrol and that's without any long weekend trips.

hpmotors 09-14-2006 03:34 PM

Re: Yeah. the price of oil is down to $64/barrel

DannyP,
That is a bit. Had to go and add up my Exxon, BP & Shell cards - comes to about $385 a month - and for a two driver household. A caveat is that my wife and I both drive Miatas, which gets about 30+ mpg. I drive 4 miles (one way) to work, much shorter than the average commute. The Ms does about 14, which is closer to average, but still on the low side I think.

The Crossfire gets occasional weekend road trip use. My F350 is parked, and has been for the past 3 months, as it gets about 14 mpg and sucks diesel at that - so my bill would easily double if I was driving that monster.

Still need a bit larger data base than we two to draw any meaningful conclusions though. ;)

cheers
