Feeling at 80 MPH
Hi,
Got a chance to do some fast driving this weekend. At 80 mph and above I get a different feeling from the car. Like a different gear kicks in and you are gliding along. Anyone else experience this or an I dreaming ??? |
Re: Feeling at 80 MPH
You are not dreaming... you're in Crossfire heaven! Welcome to the club!!
Just wait until you can get your car over 100 mph. Talk about an experience that will make you smiling from ear to ear! :D This car is the best kept secret.. |
Re: Feeling at 80 MPH
I agree ... it's as though the car "settles" and becomes more stable. Thought it was just my imagination. Is this due to the wing becoming more functional?

Re: Feeling at 80 MPH
It probably has to do to a number of factors involving wind resistance, downforce (active wing or SRT wing) and the response of the suspension to the roadway at that speed.
That being said, my SRT6 loves to live in the 'Crossfire Heaven' zone... :D |
Re: Feeling at 80 MPH
I've found most of my previous (sports) cars always seemed to settle in nicely at about 80 mph.
The interesting thing with the XF is that it's the same feeling as the speedometer climbs to 85...90...95...100...105... The stability is incredibly impressive even at 100+. Any added "feel" at high speed is strictly and wonderfully psychological. :) |
Re: Feeling at 80 MPH
I never drive above 70 ;) but I in my opinion the car in theory would handle very nicely all the way up till its governed speed of 145. Of course this is all just theory. I never drive above 70 mph. ;)

The Crossfire just glues itself to the road...

Re: Feeling at 80 MPH
You think 80 mph feels good wait until you hit 150 mph, it's SWEET! We ran with a black corvette last year from Winnemucca to the Oregon border on hwy-95 running between 130 - 150 mph, about 74 miles. Our car routinely bump 120 mph on trips if I don't turn on the cruise control. The car may not have much for a bottom end hole shot but I sure love the way this car handles the responsiveness at the top end. My favorite drive with this car is hwy-101 from Santa Barbra to Half Moon Bay that's a stretch of road you can really get into.
