XM Radio installed in cup holder?

Hey guys, I know I saw an article about replacing the cup holder with the xm radio module, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I think Andrew may have done this modification? I think I'm going to buy XM for Christmas and would like to install it there. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Also, those of you who have XM installed...do you experience a lot of static using the fm modulation to pair it to our crossfire radio?

Hello,

I have the XM Commander installed in the Cup holder. It fits nicely too. I had it installed at Best Buy and made sure they understood exactly where I wanted it. It looks like it belongs there too. Here's a thread on satellite radio.

At first, I had it installed to the factory radio. If you listen to the radio alot, you will de disappointed with the FM modulator. You will hear static every now and then. I finally upgraded to a new radio and have XM wired into the aux option. Sounds so much better. Hope this helps.

Looking at buying a new head unit...I really like Alpine's unit that already comes with XM, just need to buy the antenna. My first question is that on Crutchfield's site they are saying I would have to run new speaker wiring to the front and rear speakers. Second can I still use the factory Amp or will I have to bypass it and third, what is this that I hear about having to reverse a yellow and red wire...thanks in-advance for any info.

ALPINE CDA-9820XM w/ X Micro antenna.

Crutchfield will send you a harness, An adapter for the antenna and the keys/tools to remove the stock unit with your new radio. Plug it in and enjoy great sound. It will play through you factory amp and will sound better than the stock radio. All your? About how to hook up the wires can be found here.

There are some areas worse then others. But for the most part, 95% happy with the reception. The taller the buildings, the worse the reception. When it gets that bad, I just turn on the CD player. No biggie for me!

Thanks for the info...the main reason I want the XM radio is because I recently installed factory navigation and I don't like to have to remove the navigation CD to listen to an audio CD. And FM radio just isn't cutting it for me - I can't stand it.

You know once you load the NAV CD, you don't have to keep it in all the time. If the system ever needs it to load information it will let you know to load the second CD.

I didn't know that. Will it still recalculate routes if you have the CD removed?

Yes it will. The system will load the CD into memory and will run off that. Until it needs more information. It will let you know if it needs a CD again. I've only loaded the CD once.

It will recalculate only if its within the area of the trip you've programmed. If you reprogram another destination out of the area thats been loaded or if it needs more information it will ask you to insert the nav CD.
