Wheel painting
 

I’m thinking about doing this with my wheels on my Xfire. This is just a quick Photoshop.
I really don’t like the look of the stock wheels, and have not found any aftermarket wheels that do anything for me. I’ve also always liked the ‘black out’ look of some wheels.

Opinions?

Yea man I totally agree with you, I haven't found any rims that really " do it " for me either. I was wondering if I could just paint them black. I know you can powder coat them, but a guy around me does it for about $75 a wheel and I would have to remove the tire and all that jazz. I also know a guy with an S2000 that just used Rustoleum primer and paint and it actually doesn't look that bad.

It's your car, but that's definitely not my cup o' tea. Dark rims just make the car look filthy. I love the stock rims. And now that I have Rotex pads, they stay dust free and look awesome.

Lol. Filthy was my car 2 weeks ago when I got it stuck up to the axles in mud. We had a lot of rain, and I backed the xfire into a 'soft' spot next to the driveway in the grass. I had to let the car sit for 10 days for the ground to become stable enough to drive the car out under it's own power.

I'm not sure about the wheel painting. I like mine stock, but everybody's different. If you do decide to paint them, I have heard that this stuff works well:

Tooltym, my dad really loves cars. We actually have those cars. :-P Sorry I haven't really updated it but my bro totaled the Mustang. :-/ The Dakota has also been totaled, lady had the green light not green arrow and didn't yield to me, turned left right in front of me while I was going 45 through intersection. After the Dakota was totaled my father bought the Crossfire. :-) That is now what I drive, but yes we do have those cars.

If you must powder coat the rims... Why not try to match the color from your XF, or perhaps one of the Chrysler color offerings from the same model year? Class it up...

Yea, I’ve heard powder coating is great and all, but I don’t feel like removing the tires myself. I have been researching this quite a bit on Mustang and Tuner car forums. Many people take they’re tires off, using jack stands, set all tires down and mask off the tire and lip. After this they sand it down to remove and rough edges on the rim, apply 3 coats of primer. In between the 3 coats of primer letting each rim dry for about 2-3 minutes. After the primer is done, they apply the final color of paint they wish, in 3 coats. They say to use very light coats, as one light coat is better then one heavy coat. The brand that is getting most attention is Dupli-color wheel coating. It takes less effort and costs less than getting your rims powder coated, and according to many other car aficionados looks just as good if you prep and paint your rims correctly. Just my two cents though. ;)
