I found out what that noise was... :(
When in neutral, with the clutch up - my car would make a rattle noise (AFTER THE SECOND DAY I BOUGHT IT). When the clutch would be down in neutral, the sound would go away.
Turns out, its a bearing in my tranny that needs to be replaced.
WTF...I haven't even had this car TWO weeks.
2005 limited - cert pre-owned with 17k miles.
Meh...warranty should cover it; but still.
Any thoughts?

Yes, I signed a NY state lemon law contract, that protects me if the vehicle is a lemon.
Do you think this a bad sign of things to come? or is this a standard prob? - and it just happened to be?

I wouldn't worry about it at this point. Things break, warranties protect you. The dealer fixes it (hopefully).
However, if this is a consistent problem then the lemon laws will help. You might check with the dealer and see if this problem had been fixed under warranty on the same car.

Does the rattle noise only occur when you shut down or while driving. All the 6 speeds make a rattle noise when you shut the engine down without depressing clutch pedal.
No. When in Neutral - <If the clutch is up>, the car makes a loud rattle/helicopter noise. If I press the clutch down (while still in neutral, the sound goes away). When I drive, you can't hear anything.
its the throw out bearing ... its no big deal, it just presses the clutch in ... its noisy cause it is not made to the proper tolerance but will not cause an issue ... my previous car made that noise constantly but that's cause every one of them did as the throw out bearing was a piece of crap ... when you do not have the clutch pressed in the TO bearing fork is not putting pressure on the bearing so it rattles around ...
have it replaced, if the tech lubes in before install it should wear in properly and not make the noise anymore ... if not it will persist. they don't have to open the trans to do this or anything, just separate the bell housing from the engine to get access to the input shaft.

Wow, thanks instense! I truly appreciate the input.
So do you think the warranty will cover this?
And if not, how much am I looking at?
Do drop more knowledge; As mentioned in my previous posts, I'm a new owner, who is all about taking care of his Xfire. I hope to have this car in tiptop condition for a long time.

Hi,
How did you get on with the warranty issue? As I have the same problem, my warranty runs out in September. Dealer has said that it was the clutch springs...hmmm!!! I was not so convinced...
04' Xfire 6 spd with 40K miles.

Hey Intense, your previous car wasn't a Mistu Eclipse was it? I had one of those and the design of the tranny was at fault. Dumped that POS.
