a description via mike (aka +fireamx)...

"Yep, it's an original "steel" 1970 AMX hood, and they cut out the center of the Crossfire hood. It looked like a giant letter "U" and they welded in the hood skin of the AMX. It still retains all the Crossfire hood cross supports, and the blanket."

i got a sneak peak last saturday evening...

i must personally say... the fabrication is superior (all metal)... as is the color match... even the center spine still remains... very nice work!

look out woodward ... here he comes!

Interesting. It's a little over the top, and not my personal taste, but it does look to have been done to a very high standard. I can always appreciate quality work.

i was sure this was a joke and a photoshop until i saw the multiple pics - wow!

i agree, not my taste, but some other kind of functional 'ram air' hood might be an interesting endeavor... i would want mine to keep the hood strakes though.

+fireamx
That's how the legend began. :)

Thank you andrew. Now you made me reconsider Woodward.

But since its too late, I shall just look forward to the full coverage update in this forum. ;)

but that's not where the air enters the engine... I agree the workmanship is very well done, and I like the smooth hood more that I thought I would. But going through all that and having a dummy scoop (and a 70's style at that) be the prominent feature doesn't seem right.

Exceptional quality!

Now if only they could've left the strakes in the hood...I still like it though, something new for sure!

Looks great!!

It's not all about function but rather aesthetics, consider the scoop on the Shelby Mustang. You're right about the 70's styling and there is a lot of us baby boomer's out there that really like the retro styling, but then again I am still waiting for Dodge to release the Challenger.

A+ to +fireamx for the unique retro hood, Lots a heads are going to turn on Wooward to take a second look. Now I understand why you won't be driving the Mustang to the cruise;)

Nicely done... Excellent workmanship!

Now you just need to open up those intakes and create some new flow tubes to your air boxes... :D

You bet. It's an aesthetically beautiful job, whether it's functional or not. Finding a way to make it increase flow would be icing on the cake. Really, really nice!!!

Well there's everyone's answer to a true CAI or room for a blower... That would be easy to mod a CAI right under that thing... Interesting concept...

out of curiosity, if you hadn't already mentioned it, about how much did this run you?

Re: +fireamx's new integrated amx custom hood fabrication...

Thanks everybody for all the comments.
This has taken over 2 years to come together. (long story).
I can't say enough about the place that did all the work. (Customs Unlimited) of Hartville, Ohio. "www.customsunlimited.net" They've only been involved with the project since June, but they are solely responsible for its 1st class, quality execution. Great bunch of guys too. Very professional, and superb craftsmen.

I want to thank Andrew for taking his great photos, but for those of you who think it's a "little over the top", I wish you could see it in the flesh. Most people who have seen it, think it looks like it was supposed to be that way from the factory.

I never planned on it being functional, but it would be shamelessly easy to make it that way. All the necessary parts that you would need are reproduced, and it would be very easy to fabricate a PVC inlet directly into the back of the manifold.

Well, that's all for now, I've got to get up in 5 hours, so I can meet up with Rick Z and his Wife, and it's off to Woodward we go! :D

Let's just say, what I paid for my brand new AMX back in 1970, wouldn't cover it. ;)

Re: +fireamx's new integrated amx custom hood fabrication...

As stated before, I can appreciate the quality work done on this hood. The scoop looks out of place on this type of vehicle, though. Plus, it's intended for a 70's car, and it shows in the design of the scoop. I think some sort of slats on the hood would be much more suitable for the Crossfire.
