Side strake problems
 

I got a set of side strakes from a limited (new). Got the old ones off, cleaned the area, and the new ones clicked right in but they dont seem to fit as flush as the ones I had on there before. The strakes look ok but toward the front of the car they don't seem to fit as flush. Is there a trick to these things? Something I didn't remove from the car from the old ones? ... or is it just me? ;)

Any close ups of your strakes from all angles may be helpful.

I don't have an answer to your question on how to make the strakes fit better. I have the same issue.
Some Crossfires seem to have a slightly better fit than others, but not all that much better.

I have the original side strakes on my '04 coupe. They have never fit flush on the front end either. I just
credit it to a cheap design. I'd rather go strakeless than have the current cartoonish looking OEM ones on
the car now. I think the Crossfire looks better with strakes, but only if they are a more attractive design that
fit better.

The bottom pic is a photochop and my wishful thinking The concept is too expensive for me to justify having it
done...

Man, nice photochop! I still would rather have the strakes though. It was black on black before so maybe it wasn't as noticeable before. It could just be me.

I just checked out the close up you had of your strakes in your gallery and yeah, mine are sticking out about that far. I just could have sworn the black ones I had were actually touching the car near the front where the strakes begin.

Yeah, they are pretty bad, I can easily slide a credit card in the gap on the leading edge...

Ben - Any chance you can photo shop without the strakes but with the side scoop? That's what I eventually want to do to mine.

Just a quickie photo chop to give you an idea. I've been trying to find a good pic of the Vette's side scoop
I could use. I think that style with the strakes coming out from the inside of the scoop would look good.

But again, it's too expensive for me to justify the cost of doing it at a body shop... :(

If you haven't already, try double-sided moulding tape. It's a 3M product and is used by OEM. Not sure if that is the problem, but it fixed my trailing edge gap.

Its just a thought but what if the side strakes did fit flush and every time you hit large bump they moved a tiny bit and scratched your car? Maybe the gap is designed in so they will not fit flush and damage your paint.
