beeping won't stop
Hi All,
My Crossfire beeps when I open the driver's side door as if the head lights are still on. I've been alright with this for a few months but now it's just plain annoying. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Daniel

The keys are not in the ignition. There are no obvious reasons that I can see to cause this. As soon as I open the driver side door the beeping starts until I turn the key to the on position. This is a 2004 Coupe.

You may have a bad ignition lock cylinder. Do you get a noticable Click/Clunk when you remove the key from the ignition? Also is there any resistance when turning the key from the off position to the on position. If the answer to these is no, then it's probably a bad ignition lock cylinder. You shouldn't be able to turn the key to the off position and remove it without hearing/feeling that click/clunk. Also, if you don't feel/hear theis, your steering wheel is probably also not locking. The next time you get in the car, tru and turn the wheel without the key in teh ignition. If the steering wheel will turn and not lock, the ignition lock cylinder is your problem.
I just checked for a click/chunk sound and there was nothing out of the ordinary. The steering wheel locked when I turned it with the key out of the ignition. Any other ideas?
It was doing this when I bought it from the dealership a couple of months ago. They were messing around with the car in the garage for a while before handing over the keys so I assume now that they were trying to figure it out. I would take it back to them but there is a $100 charge for diagnostics. 8-|

I just had the fun experience of having the ignition lock cylinder lock up and had to have my baby towed to the dealer. They replaced it and the locking mechanism for the steering column which was also affected. $1100 later and I get it back, but it now has this stupid beeping also. Didn't used to do that the 2 years I've owned her prior to this problem. Now it does and I can't figure out how to shut it off.
Extremely annoying.
Mine is an '04 coupe. Keys are not in the ignition, lights are turned off, etc. etc. Does this every flippin' time I open the drivers side door, and then about 5 seconds after I start the car.
Is there a setting they changed? Forgot to hook something backup? Any ideas? Its driving me nuts!

This is something I still am dealing with. NeverEnough suggested that it may have something to do with the ignition lock cylinder. Sparks81 new problem supports that. I would like to hear how you resolve this!

I'm just glad this thread is active again. It's annoying but not hundreds of dollars worth to resolve. I would be fine with unplugging the device emmitting the tone. If it always beeps it does nothing to prevent me from leaving my lights on.
Not sure if this applies to Crossfires, but my Chrysler mini-van does this if I accidentally turn up the dashboard lights to the point that it turns on the dome light. I've done this a couple of times and I still always seem to have a hard time figuring out why the car is beeping at me.
Just for clarification. It only beeps when the door is open whether the key is in the ignition or not, then continues to beep for about 5 seconds after the door is closed and the key is in the ignition and the car started. No key in the ignition, the beeping stops once the door is closed.
Its almost like they forgot to hook something up, almost seems like the key sensor in the ignition is permanently on with the door open sensor. Something is no longer right.
Weird weird weird weird weird.

I still haven't been able to figure this out. Is this something that can be changed with an OBD-II programmer? It's driving me nuts! I'd take it back but they'd claim that they didn't do anything or some such lie. I thought service was to fix things, not cause other problems.
