Pro's and cons to auto vs 6 speed stick.

Ok Im gonna but a Xfire so that part is set. Coupe or convertable thats up in the air. Whats the deal with reliability of the manual vs the auto? What are the pro's and cons. I love stick but if reliablity is an issue than i can deal with a manumatic.

If you're buying a brand new one....doesn't much matter considering the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty....I don't think the clutch is covered though....only the lubricated stuff...?? I love my 6 speed....

If you're driving in a lot of stop and go you might want to consider the auto. That's what I have in my '05 roadster and I find it's great. If you like driving manual then get it. I've read the '04 models have had some issues with them but the later years seemed to have had them resolved.

My choice was a manual, but the SRT6 is auto only.
Sometimes I miss a manual, but in traffic, the auto is fantastic. The auto transmissions in these are really nice and adaptive too.

Pros to the manual is it's 1/2 second quicker in the 1/4 mile since you can take it to redline.

Another pro to the manual is that everyone knows sports cars need three pedals.

I have had my XF for about two weeks now. I do have the six speed. I never did drive the automatic for a comparison. If you go with the manual, it will take a day or two to adjust to the clutch, but I think you will enjoy it. In my humble opinion, manual is the only way to go with any type of sporty car.

I have never owned a six speed before, but I do like the fact that it has six gears. I have found that once you are on the highway, you really don't need to downshift a whole lot unless you really need to pass someone in a hurry. I have yet to have the XF bog down going up long hills (especially in the higher altitudes of Colorado).

And add a Sprint Booster BDD-451 and you will find this to be even more true.

Sports cars have sticks, period.

If you're out of warranty, I suspect it's cheaper to replace a clutch than a torque converter. But I doubt either would be cheap. There's also no maintenance for the MT6. I think the auto tran fluid needs to be changed somewhere around 100k.

What would YOU have more fun driving?
