I just asked my brother the same thing. He likes to tinker so don't know why or how he came to this answer. But he told me carbon.

Both trap particulates, but the carbon ones ALSO trap smells.

Particulate is called particulate because it ONLY traps particles of a certain size or larger, it does nothing to stop odors.

Carbon is better, but usually quite a bit more expensive.

Needswings sells these filters at a reasonable price, however, check rockauto.com - if memory serves me correctly I think they are cheaper.

The carbon filters are cheaper, for some reason. Not sure why; perhaps the particulate filter can trap smaller particles than the carbon filter can.

yes the carbon micronair are the best ones. sorry i cant pricematch some other websites on them, we are already selling those at like $2 over our cost so there isnt much room to move on the price for them.

Woud you be kind enough to explain to me were the Cabin Air filter is located and if needed how to replace it.
Being new to my Xfire this is just one of the things that I need to learn.

Anybody know if the cabin air filter can be installed in the base coupe (2005)? I wouldn't mind having that option. Base coupe's don't have 'em.

I replaced mine today with a Bosch Carbon filter- first time I did one- it took about 20 mins, even having to learn how to line up the clips. Once the clips were lined up everything snapped back in place. With only 15,500 miles on the car the filter was dirty and it had an odor to it (I bought the car used). I am glad I changed it.

Also changed the air filters- MANN filters, I noticed a little better breathing with the clean filters.
