Hi guys,

I have searched a bit on the forum and it seems like for the NA Crossfire the only relevant problem is associated with the manual transmission not being very smooth and the rust on the doors.
For the SRT-6 it seems the IC pump.
If that is all I guess this is a very reliable vehicle.
I am just doing some research in case an extended warranty is not available in the vehicle that I might interested in buying.

Once you learn how to operate it the way it wants to be operated...the manual is "sweet"!

 

common problem is the heated seats.
I have an 04 that has not let me down once. Starts and gets me where I'm going every time.

 

I got my catback on and it seems like it fixed any problems I had with the transmission. Maybe I can just hear it now

 

Consumer Reports rates the Crossfire "Much better than average"

Compare to their " Much worst than averge for Solstice.

Test drove the dark grey one because the white was sold yesterday.
I really like the manual and it felt like a different car.
But second gear really crappy when trying to engage at low speed. During full acceleration not a problem.
I will keep you posted.

 

the manual trans in these cars are really good, you just have to learn how to drive it, when I first got mine I had trouble with second gear also, but once I learned to drive it how it wanted to be drove it goes into each gear smoothly , I have an 04 and the only thing that has ever went wrong so far is a code for secondary air injection

 

The problem is that it would shift well at high RPM but at low RPM it was like my old MazdaSpeed and it would really not engage. I stopped twice on the side of the road after turning at low speed because it would only go in 1st or 4th. I will try to test drive another one to compare it.
But definitively no issues on high RPM gear changes. It felt like my old mazdaspeed where I had to rev the engine a bit to make some gears engage. Thanks for the inputs.

 

At 29k miles, first to second still not smooth. Not like my Audi which shifts like butter, even with a competition clutch.

The other problem is the tire warning monitors. Mine went off on a long road trip in May and even though I've checked the tires several times (and they are aired up), it won't go off.

Otherwise, with normal maintenance and reasonable driving habits, the car has been exceptionally reliable for four summers.

 

Imagine having thats problem and learning how to drive a manual at the same.

I can honestly say it was not a pleasant experience, but i got to say it was well worth it!

 

My shifter worked perfectly in all gears ever since I bought it.

If it don't work now it ain't going to work later.

 

Yeah seriously this manual may suck to people who first get in it but after you drive it and get used to the feel of it it is probably the best you'll ever drive. My mr2 spyder had a 5 speed that was supposed to be the end all be all but after driving the xfire it pailed in comparison... just my .02

 

My 05 has been in the shop more days than I've driven it. Oh well, I guess I'm the exception.

 

It took me a while to get sued to the 1st - 2nd change. It still catches me out, especially if I have driven my other half's Vauxhall. There is definitely a “sweet spot” for this gear change. Get it wrong either way, and it can feel rough*.

First to second on a Morris Minor also required care. I am reminded of the Minor I used to have when doing this gear change on the Crossfire.

 

My 2nd gear improved over time, or maybe just over the summer, being hotter. It may come back in the winter though.

The common problems I've found are:

1. The rear cabin vents that tap and make noise (fixed with foam)
2. Rear hatch rattle (fixed with electrical tape)
3. Inner door rust
4. Notchy tranny
5. Clutch squealing after sitting. Another member also recently got this clutch squeal problem.

Mine has been to the dealer for:
6. Fogged lights
7. Rear headliner popped loose
8. Weaping oil from filler neck
9. Rattling exhaust which required replacement.

Common problems not experienced by me since mine's a base model:
10. Tire pressure gauge malfunction
11. Nav radio glitches
12. Heated seat failure

This car comes with many defects from the factory and at least 8 items in my list are very common. Most owners here just drive on the weekend, so the compounding problems don't come all at once for most. But my frutration is from experiencing 9 of those problems within 6 months of ownership, and from driving it every day. They are small problems, but just too many of them. 4 trips to the dealer just ain't cool. If this keeps up, I'm going with a Challenger.

 

Tire monitor lite. Eveything else is perfect.

 

apart from the faulty rubber door sills... no problems at all.

 

I must be lucky. I originally had an 05 Limited Roadster SSB Automatic and had no problems what so ever. I then had an 07 Limited Roadster Aero Blue. As with the first Crossfire I had no problems at all. I finally had the opportunity to get the one I really wanted when I had the first two and I now have an 07 Classic Yellow Roadster. I have only had it for two weeks, but have not had any problems yet.

 

I bought one of the last few thousand XF's made, and I have no problems here (knock on wood) after 4k miles.

I did a quick visual check on the engine oil today and it looks pretty good for 4,000 miles. Usually around this time my other cars start putting out putrid looking black slime, but the XF's oil is still clean and brown.
