Default Spontainous/Windsheild

I love spontanaity but not from important car parts. Driving home from a Charity Benefit here in town my windshield just cracked. Wasn't there and "poof" it was.

Never heard of it before, no rock, no bump, nothing. Just watched the damm thing form as I drove down a wide boulevard.

Anyway, it happens, no big deal. So, any issues with windshields on our Xfires and getting them replaced?

Saw one recent thread with about 4/5 entries.

I just had mine replaced two days ago. I was re-painting my windshield trim and someone thought it was a good idea to try and pry off my windshield with a screw driver, if that makes any sense. Anyhow, it was about $230 and I helped the guy install it since it was raining. It's not very hard, just time consuming, but I'd recommend getting an OEM one, because my review mirror already fell off and I had to sick it back on with double sided tape, and now it shakes when I hit bumps in the road and it bothers me a lot.

Hey Franc,

Sorry to hear about the widnshield

I had mine replaced last Tuesday after catching a small rock in west Belleville (coming back from Oliver C. Joseph's)

I know you're across the river - but I had mine replaced by Martin Glass Co. here in Belleville - they had one in stock

Cost me $351.93 and took about two hours

Was an exact replacement for the factory windshield and they did a great job

Kevin

Combine a fine scratch with a sudden change in glass temperature (like turning on the blower with air temp hitting windshield radically different than temp of glass can cause this. Also could have been hit by something and wasn't noticeable until light hit it "just so"?

Cleaned my windows really good Friday nite, no scratch or chip. Drove all day Saturday at the St Louis metro GTG, but nothing I can remember hit the windscreen.
I was driving down a fairly new 6 lane boulevard with no one else on the road and it just appeared right in front of the driver side about 8" off the frame. Weird.

I'm with allstate so OEM Glass is not an issue. As much as insurance costs are for these babies, you can bet I'll demand my money's worth.

Thats for the tip AfKat, we have a Martin on this side of the river also.

You know, they make two-part rearview mirror glue and sell it at every auto store.

There is a Known TSB out on this problem. You might have the dealer take a look at it and see what happens. I know, I know, I just said take it to a dealer, ugh...
