Crossfire Concept Introduction Press Kit
 

I purchased a copy of the 2001 DC Concepr Cars Introduction Press Kit CD.

It is interesting to see what the dream of German Engineering and American Styling was back then.

It's sad to see "what could have been" compared to what actually was.....

There are some interesting files on the CD that I thought I'd share with the forum.

If they all don't fit on one posting, I'll continue with an additional posting.

If anyone would be interested in a copy of the entire CD, which is titled "American Inspiration" and features the Chrysler Crossfire - Jeep Willis - Dodge Super8 Hemi and the Dodge Powerbox, let me know.

I'll figure out a way to copy it in mass and ship it out... Probably a violation of some copyrights, actually not.. full permission to use the materials without modification is included..

Whatever happened to the engine in the specs?

Is that in any MB model? I still love the look of that concept too.

It's a supercharged version of the 2.7 used in the Intrepid, Concorde, 300, Charger, Magnum, Sebring, Avenger, and Stratus. Be glad we didn't have those motors in the Crossfire. They are ticking time bombs and I could just imagine a supercharged version. I'm a Mopar guy and I'll even admit that those engines suck.

If I'm not mistaken, the Dodge Copperhead had the n/a 2.7 in it too. I wish they would have made that car. It would have made an awesome Dodge counterpart to the Crossfire.

You know, aside from the funky headlights and tailglass, it looks like the only major difference between the production XF and the prototype is that the prototype has shaved bumpers so the overhangs are much smaller.

Or are my eyes deceiving me...

i would like to know who approved the cheap aftermarket looking fog lamps hanging just below the front bumper... ready for the first parking block incident... :( they truly look out of place.

Honestly, I think the production model is much better looking than the concept. The concept front end looks like it could double as a snow plow, those fog lights were a definite afterthought and something about the back end just doesn't look right when viewed from the side. Is anyone running the wheel/tire combo mentioned in the specs (255/40/19 and 295/35/21)? The concept's interior is much better looking than the production version. I'm sure it would have cost a small fortune to produce the concept's interior.

I have some pics I took of the crossfire when it was first at chryslers at carlisle. I see if I can find them. I got to sit in it too :)

I like the concept. The rear end does look like it's been sliced off too abruptly though I like the front end: kinda Cadillac-looking.
Murphy: those fog lights wouldn't last through one good driveway pan.....I agree!

Good News,

I've received enough interest from members who are interested in getting a copy of the complete press kit CD, so I'm going to dupe the CD.

Bad News,

I'll be away from home for the next 3 weeks, and I won't be able to get these out until after September 20th.

They won't be fancy, just a dupe of the CD without labels or anything, but the information for all the concept cars will be included.

Drop me a PM with your mailing information and I'll post a notice when they have been shipped.

Glad to do it as a partial repayment for all the great information contained in this Forum.

The spine continues through the front windcsreen and the boot’s window as well. This sold me the car long before I could afford to buy one. It had one foot well planted in the past (split windscreens were common a long time back) and the other in the modern world. Splitting the screens would affect visibility, but given the somewhat gothic rear view you get from the driver’s seat anyway, who would really notice?

The Crossfire concept was a real jolt - and I’m glad that the majority of the car’s styling was kept for the production model.

I'm with you, I love the idea of the split screens and I think it was neat how they made the Windshield wiper the "split" in the front screen, my son's 68 Mustang Fastback had the spine molded in the backglass. I too am glad that a lot of the styling made it thru to production, so many times that is not the case.

Good find! I remember seeing the original concept in Detroit in '01, I didn't think much of it back then. The production car looks much less odd from the front.

That Copperhead takes me waaay back. I had a 1:18 scale model of it back in the mid 90's. I think it still looks kind of cool.
