Mercedes Won't Touch A Crossfire
I hear that Mercedes won't touch a crossfire to repair it. As much as I would love to bring it there, I won't even try it based on what everyone around here says.
I wonder if you could bring it to a dealership for brakes or oil changes. Anyone here do that to get better service and people that will take better care of your car? |
Re: Mercedes Won't Touch A Crossfire
I am talking about bringing it to a Mercedes dealer for brakes and oil changes.

Any good brake guy would be cheaper than a Benz dealer!

Re: Mercedes Won't Touch A Crossfire
With the right coin in your pocket, and the right approach, a Lamborghini dealership will work on it.
The problem -- it won't be a warranty job, and for understandable reasons. On paper, the Crossfire is no more a Mercedes than a Mazda would be. Of course, we all know the difference, but the accounts-payable folks @ Stuttgart don't know/don't care how to classify a Chrysler repair. They don't want any slice of that pie. Not even a crumb. Now, approach them with a waiver and out-of-pocket cash, and I'm sure your experience will be positive. And expensive. Might be better off finding a local shop that specializes in European brands. Chances are, they've seen an SLK or two, and the prices should be competitive because their hand isn't being held to the stove by the big bad corporations. |
Re: Mercedes Won't Touch A Crossfire
That's not true in all cases ! I have read of at least a couple Benz dealers that will work on the Crossfire from folks right here on the forum. Sorry, can't remember who they were ! But I would suggest you call your local Benz dealer and ask, especially since taking this thing to Chrysler seems to be a labor of fruitlessness in many cases ! Or seek out an independant shop who specializes in Benz and other Euro vehicles. ;)
For oil changes I personally buy my own oil and filter and take it to the local Grease Monkey ! No muss No fuss ! Just my Dos Centavos |

If they treat you like a red headed step child, remind them that you are a potential Benz buyer, depending on your experience. If that doesn't make them behave with some respect, you don't want them working on your car anyway. Remember, You are the guy with the money. Without you, all they got is attitude. roadster with a stick |

If you do the brakes, go for the Rotex Gold. Buy 'em yourself so you can hand 'em over to whoever you pick to do the job.

Re: Mercedes Won't Touch A Crossfire
Many private shops that specialize in Mercedes vehicles will gladly work on the car. Most are aware of what they are.
My simple solution is to work on it my self. I do the oil and have done the brakes (swapping to Rotex Gold). Next, I will be tackling the suspension. It's a fairly simple car to work on. Oil changes on just about any vehicle is easy. The brakes were a piece of cake too. There are good DIY instructions on this forum. All you need for any of this stuff is simple hand tools. Cheers! |
Re: Mercedes Won't Touch A Crossfire
I found a MB master mechanic from one of the local MB dealers that is willing to work on my car. You can check local dealers for the same.
