Default Speedometer

If you replace the speedometer, would it remember the mileage on the car or is the info saved in the speedo. Also, can someone replace the speedo by themselves without the help of the dealer or is there something that needs to be reset and only the dealer can do it? Just curious.

I think the dealer can only mess with those parts. But I honestly have no clue.

Mileage can be changed through the OBD port using the right equipment.

The mileage on the speedometer face can be changed, but the actual mileage is still stored in the onboard computer.

I know it may not apply to the Xfire since it really isn't a Chrysler, but on the more recent ChryCo products, the mileage shown in the cluster is based on what is stored in the ECM. I swapped clusters on a 2002 Caravan and it picked up the mileage of the vehicle and reset the cluster.

I would think the Xfire would be similar, but I have no 'real' experience with it to let you know.
