Re: Break dust
Yes - suggest you look into a set of Rotex Gold pads. That will eliminate a great deal of your problem. The other thing you can do is get a decent wheel brush and get the backs of the wheels when you wash your car. I find that when I do the backs of the wheels it cuts down on what ends up on the front of the wheels. My wife can go a whole week in her Mercedes without much brake dust showing up on her front wheels.

Re: Break dust
thank you. will try. any other sujestions?

Re: Break dust
The brakes on these cars are very prone to a lot of dust. Just the way it is unfortunately. Changing the Rotex Gold seems to solve this issue. When my front pads are ready to be changed out, this is what I will get.

Re: Break dust
Rotex golds. just got mine done.

Re: Break dust
I have recently purcahsed disc italia ceramic pads and was told by the shop that if I put them on the factory rotors they would be torn up rapidly and that I need to install the proper rotors at the same time, also, that the rotors on this car can not be turned. Can anyone tell me is this is accurate? Thanks.

Re: Break dust
I haven't gotten as far with mine yet as changing out brakes.....if the rotors are mercedes rotors they do NOT recommend turning them, that is from a Mercedes mechanic I spoke with. he said to replace them. I know a lot of folks on this forum have replaced the pads without touching the rotors. Whether or not that's a good practice, someone else will have to answer that. When and if I do change my pads to rotex I will also change the rotors.

I was just pissed I waited so long to have them installed. |
Re: Break dust
The brush can be had from Solobrushes.com (solo Horton brush company) and is model/item#987. Its $3.78 plus shipping.

Re: Break dust
Changed to Rotex gold 5 years and 45,000 miles ago. I would say it eliminates the problem. I clean the scooter weekly and I no longer even notice brake dust. It should be noted that I am not one of those cleaning fanatics that we have on the forum but I am happy.

Re: Brake dust
i did the rotex well! i cleaned the crap out of the rims before the install was complete... 2 months later i still have yet to wash the insides... theyre still spot less....

Re: Brake dust
CHRYSLER Also in colors. Finned for airflow.

Re: Brake dust
Rotex Gold pads are great, but do squeak a bit. I used the proper brake quiet lube and etc., but they still squeak. They are worth it though! They are manufactured to produce less dust. That is their main purpose.

Re: Brake dust
I got Rotex Golds 22000 miles ago and had my rotors turned.
Just a slight cut to refresh the surface. No brake dust and no squeal. |
Re: Brake dust
Personally, I have the EBC RED Stuff Ceramic pads front, Yellow Stuff rear and their 3GD rotors...
EBC Redstuff Ceramic Brake Pads - Front: buybrakes.com EBC Yellowstuff Race Compound Brake Pads - Rear: buybrakes.com EBC Sport Slotted and Dimpled Brake Rotor Kit - Front: buybrakes.com EBC Sport Slotted and Dimpled Brake Rotor Kit - Rear: buybrakes.com Stops on a dime compared to before. No brake fade, and pretty much no dust (if you wash your car at least once a month, there is no dust). Only thing is, because the rotors are slotted with really wide slots there is a tiny bit of a whirring sound if you brake hard... Not bad, but not silent. That being said, next time I will buy the cross-drilled Brembo rotors without the slots. Either way, I'm completely satisfied with my setup... |
Re: Brake dust
I put the Disc Italia Ceramic Pads on the front of mine, they are great, quiet, hardly any dust!!!! :D

Deb - I'd be interested in what made you choose the Disc Italia pads over the Rotex Golds which have been getting good reviews on here for many years? |
Re: Brake dust
I went with Akebono ceramic pads from tire rack. They are great. You cannot go wrong with either Akebono or Rotex.

Re: Brake dust
I also went with Akebono, no dust :D and no squeek :D
