Stupid Newbie questions

- I only have one key (How do I get another ? do I have to go to MB, Chrysler, or Fiat??). I see they sell them on EBay - but how do you get the programming ?? (as in "Gone in 60 Seconds" I assume?).

- I do believe the dealer (as in Nissan delaer) changed the oil in my "new" Crossfire with Dino oil - as the little sticker does not specify but does have a 3 month, 3000 mile change schedule - which would be Dino oil - will this hurt the engine - should I get some mobile 1 in it ASAP??

I am sure I will have a few more stupid questions - so please bare with me or bear with me - ? thanks.

Shawn

Re: Stupid Newbie questions

You can get them off ebay and program them yourself i believe. much cheaper that way... correct me if I am wrong. Pretty new myself... but welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forum. It is kind of hard to think of "59" as being a newbie. Find a local Chrysler dealer with a certified Crossfire tech and he will get you fixed on the key problem. Dino Oil will gum up the works. I'd take that immediately to my Chrysler dealer. They may even want to do a flush of some sort. It will be expensive but could save you some bucks in the long run.

I agree with the oil. It is best to start with a base line. Never heard of the oil you identified.

Spend the extra bucks and get a good synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 or other brand. Check to confirm the correct weight of the oil. I have an SRT so it calls for 0-40W. You can get this changed at any good quality oil change location. I am lucky that I have a small idependent guy that does this and is a good mechanic that knows these as well as Mercedes. You should be able to run this oil for at least 6,000 miles. Make sure you put in a good filter and they put in the correct amount of oil as identified in your owner's manual.

Good luck with the new car.

Jake80

Welcome and congrats on the "new" car. Keys have to be ordered from Chrysler with your VIN number.

Use Mobil 1 oil. What is dyno oil?

Hi,
I guess he is referring to dino oil as in dinosaur era oil instead of synthetic oil.

Only use Mobil 0-40 per MB recommendation. If they put in in regular 10-30 oil then replace the oil and filter ASAP.

Order the key from the stealership with your VIN.

Do searches on these items and the info from this forum will answer most of your questions.

Enjoy the Crossfire but since it is mostly Benz parts, maintenance can get expensive.

Re: Stupid Newbie questions

Yep, keys only from the Chrysler dealer, with the vin number and prove of ownership. should not be too expensive. new keys are pre-programmed so they should not charge you programming fee.

Use synthetic oil ONLY.

Mobil One 0W-40 is recommended and should last 7k miles between oil change. You may use different brand synthetic oil other than Mobil 1, or use a similar viscosity like the 5W-30, but you should change the oil more offen since it will not last as long.

I am sorry - I have always referred to organic oil (?) as Dino oil. I am not sure how else to refer to it ? Non- synthetic?

anyway- I have only put less than 100 miles on it since I bought it - and I am only assuming that the NIssan dealer put "Dino Oil" into it- but you kow what it says about assume!

well, I am sure Dino won't mind being known as organic...but, change it to synthetic asap...don't want to gum up such a work of art...

There aren't any dinosaurs in petroleum, THAT is a joke.

But I do miss the Sinclair Oil signs - haven't seen one since 1969 or 70.
