Definitely sounds like you knocked out one of the retainer spring on the parking brake shoe because of the long lug bolts. I did the same thing a while back...sucks, but you either have to take it in for warranty work (if you still have warranty) or take it to a really good brake shop to get the retainer spring replaced and put back in...

or you can do it yourself if you have the right tools/skills.

Default put snow tires on, now driver rear is clunking

I put the snow wheels/tires on yesterday and everything went fine. unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to take it for a test drive after becausei've done it 10 times before with no issues. well this morning, my wife called me half way to work cmplaining that the car was clunking the entire way. and that is sounded like it was the driver rear wheel. any ideas what it could be? i've used lugs that were too long before and that was pretty noticable... but I got newlugs right after that and haven't had that problem since. could one of these new lugs just be a hair too long? what is it hittingn parking brake shoes? any help would be appreciated.

oh yeah, and all lung were triple checked with a towque wrench to be 81 ft-lbs.

thanks

Snowtires on a XF? Didn't know they even made them. Seriously, how does it handle in the snow?

handles amazingly with snow tires. but we bought it used with the factory 3 season continental sport which look like slicks. hence the needfor snowies. we bought new cheap rims at the same time as the snowies so i could change them out in my driveway.

i think i was rubbing just a bit on the parking brake because the lug was just a hair too long. the noise stopped, so either the lug has now worn down to a sufficient level. Or whatever it was hitting in the parking brake stuff, fell off. either way the noise stopped and the lugs are all tight.

please let me know if there is something i'm missing, but i think i'm all good now.

ps-sorry for the bad grammar/spelling, i'm typing from my PDA phone.

sorry, just read first line of reply. handles great in the snow with snow tires.

on dry pavement, handling is noticable reduced but not too bad overall.

keep in mind, "snow" tires remain soft below 32 deg F. all seasons or 3 seasons get very hard and even on dry pavement handle noticably worse.
