powerchip and speed limiter

I looked all over Powerchipgroups' web site, logged in, and got e-mails from them for about a week before they finally answered my question about the speed limiter. Their chip does not change the speed limiter. I know this doesn't matter to some of us, but even with the extra hp and torque if the speed limiter isn't kicked up a bit you'll just loose a little bit slower. 2nd place is the first loser. :(

P.S. Let the games begin :!:

Speed limiter? I've had it over 150 already and didn't get shut down. How much faster do you need to go? I'm not aware of any limiter, unless you are talking about the rev limiter. In which case, it is there to keep your valves from floating past redline.

Haven't had ours past 135 yet. Go to Crossfireshop and read about the ECU upgrade. They say(and I might have read it in the owners manual) that the speed is electronically governed at 149mph, with their upgrade(about $900) the speed limiter is moved to 186mph.

DFWSBR 01-22-2004 03:04 PM

"they also say" meaning "the manual" that the spoiler should deploy at 60something. Mine deploys at 57. I've personally seen / taken the crossfire over 150. It did not cut out on me. Why would you need to go much faster than that anyway?

If I wanted to go faster I'd take the bike out.

Neil Scott Snow 01-22-2004 03:09 PM

The manual says maximum speed 149 on page #220. Was your over 150 by the speedo or were you clocked(radar, sonar, vascar)?

DFWSBR 01-22-2004 03:17 PM

Speedo, I wasn't doing a documentary on discovery channel!

Yes, before you say it, almost all speedo's are off over 100mph. My point was, it read over 150. Thats good enough for me.

Neil Scott Snow 01-22-2004 08:22 PM

I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. 8)
As for going over 150 on a bike "ARE YOU CRAZY?".

DFWSBR 01-22-2004 08:29 PM

Over 150 in a bike is simple and very obtainable on a closed road course.

Crazy? I think you have to be a little crazy to get on a sport bike in the first place. I wear full gear whenever I ride. I'm not one of those crazy asses running down the highway doing 80 mph wheelies.

I've hit top end of 6th gear on the bike, bouncing off the rev limiter. It gets a bit windy at speeds like that. I didn't even dare look at the speedo, I knew I was going fast!

I've got a friend with a yamaha that he says will do 194. His old lady says she has trouble hanging on to him when they're running in excess of 150. I figure I'll be going to funeral pretty soon. Did I mention he does this around B'ham and Bessemer Al. I won't even consider riding my '96 bad-boy in the same group with him.
Was just introduced last year to a guy about 25-30 years old who ground off all but about 1/2" of his fingers doing 80mph stoppies. Somehow I just can't see why a person would want to try that.

How do you feel about someone who likes to wheelie CARS? (at the dragstrip, of course.. )

At a higher rate of speed on a bike, you can apply just enough break pressure, adjust your body on the bike, and basically get the bike to stop on the front wheel, with the back in the air. I've seen a few gone bad. Its enough risk riding on 2 wheels. I'll stick to that.

WesMichaels 01-23-2004 09:22 AM

Thanks, DFWSBR.

I've had several bikes. The last 2 were Harleys and I've seen morons doing that.... I fail to see the point. I always tried to keep especially the rear wheel, on the ground.

I haven't owned a bike since I moved the Virginia (1985). These people can't even drive around cars, let alone bikes...

I still fail to see the reason to do more than 150mph. The brakes won't do you any good past 135, and that is if you are being light on them. I once had my previous car up to 170 and had everything upgraded from suspension, brakes, etc. The brakes I had were 13.5" rotors and 2.5" thick w Baer calipers. I just touched the brakes at 170, they just laughed. However closer to 140 I could rip the front tires loose off the ground from the stopping force. Anything faster was just too much heat. I even had CF pads on it. Not much more you can do, unless you go with an even bigger brake setup. The smallest wheel I could fit over them were 17".

As for the stoppie / wheelie (aka squids), they need to either practice in private lots, or not do it at all. They are not only putting themselfs at risk but others around them.

I've got a sport bike club here in DFW area to keep guys like that out of the group. Don't need any additional (negative) attention from the public or police. I don't ride to work either. DFW area is hard enough to get around in a car, much less a bike. We typically ride the country back roads up to Oklahoma and back. Occasional traffic involves a tractor or two ;) Nice clean roads though.

Is this a crossfire forum or a bike forum
