Driving in the Rain

I drive a 2004 coupe and even though I LOVE the car it drives like S*#% in the RAIN. I Know it is a rear wheel driving but is there any way I can make it at more RELIABLE in the rain?
Rain Tires would sacrifice much the performance on dry weather?

Thanks

Re: Driving in the Rain

If you have the stock conti's check the treadwear, personally I think that quite a few "summer" tires to quite well in the rain, I have the general exclaim UHP's and I'll never go back, they're reasonably priced, and do well in the rain, and amazing on dry pavement. They're a little noisy, but it's comparable to conti's. If you have the Michelin pilot PS2's then yeah they're terrible in the rain, but AMAZING on dry pavement.

What do you have for tires and how many miles are on them?

Don't push the pedal down so far/so fast.

I haven't had any trouble with my car in the snow...though it did have winter tires on it, but still...

Re: Driving in the Rain

Never any problems in the rain even when the originals were worn down to slicks. The problem is you can't drive 100+ MPH in the rain and you can't step on the gas either. Know that when it rains or snows, just slow it down and don't make any sharp turns.

Don't blame the tires... blame the road conditions and drive according to those conditions.

I'm the opposite, these tyres are great in the wet. Is your suspension geometry dialled in correctly and tyre pressures correct?

I have driven on PS2's, Contis and Kumho's and have had not problems. Yes, if I push the gas to fast they will all slip a little in the rain.... I live in Oregon....we get a little rain..... there are limits to everything....;)

First thing I did when I bought my '05 coupe in '08,was buy a full set of new Conti's. So far they've been excellent in the rain. No complaints.

I would have to say the problem is you or you have some sort of drag radials on, This car drives like dream in rain. just as good as on a dry surface.

Mine has a problem in the rain also. I am not sure what it is, but every time it is raining, there is an orange colored light that keeps flashing on my dash, and it won't stop flashing. It gets pretty damn annoying.

I have old Conti's on mine and I have no problem in the rain. That flashing light means that there is a crash about to happen and the car is trying to save you.

Bat has the GoodYear Eagle F1 DS-G3 tires on her Crossfire, and they are one of the best rain tires I've ever had the pleasure to drive on in a sports car.

No flashy yellow light or anything.

I had new Suminoto Summer tires when I bought my Crossfire (stupid for a car living in a snow belt). First time it snowed , it was like all 4 tires were balled. Sold them to a local Crossfire owner for $425 and bought Goodyear F1 All season tires. It was like night and day difference. Got through 2 Cleveland , Ohio winters driving almost normally. In summer rain storms I have yet to experience any hydroplaning at 65 mph. Car seems to grip dry road curves like it is on rails.:D Tires mean everything and must be matched to your driving conditions. The F1's were over $1000 from Mr. Tire.

The guy who bought my Suminotos said he only drove his Crossfire in the summer and was thrilled at the price.

I bought a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S and I must say that they do handle exceptionally well in the rain - so far as to say I would purposely hit the puddle to see if I would hydroplane (I never did..). They worked pretty well in the snow as well.

They were over $1,000 for 4 tires and only lasted me ~18k miles (I had a little fun here and there but nothing outrageous) before they became so loud I couldn't even hear the radio at full blast. (Exaggerating to an extent, but they were the absolute loudest tires I have ever heard in my life, it was like driving a truck)

I put on Nitto Invo's last summer. they are supposed to be rated quite well for h2o. Didn't have alot of wet weather to drive in last year and I parked it over the winter. Maybe this year.

Re: Driving in the Rain

:) I bought this XF in Hickory NC way back in July 2009. Since then have made three trips back and forth from west of Sumter SC. All three trips have been in medium to heavy rain (sorry all you 'no driving in rain/snow' for the XF's folks) during most of the trip with most of the miles on interstates at 70+ in medium to heavy traffic. Not once did I experience any feeling of 'loss' of contact (hydroplaning) at those speeds, nor have I had any traction problems locally in rainy/wet roadways locally. The Continentals (original equipment) have performed perfectly without any indication of a problem (I do pay strict attention to the roadway topography and the tactile feedback from the steering wheel/contact with the seat/floorboard). I think you know what I mean? :)

:D The grip and ride have been excellent no matter what the roadway conditions! ;)

Re: Driving in the Rain

honestly i dont really drive my car in the rain, but sometimes we'll all go out to a local parking lot and do a little slide session. I <3 my disabled tcs :D

you wont find a tire thats good at everything, you sacrifice for everything. A tire that handles very well in the dry will be sub par in the wet, vice versa, etc
