i noticed that the optional continental all season tires add $185 to the sticker. but it appears that at tirerack.com the michelins are actually more expensive even though they are on special. just thought that the pricing - getting less for more- was interesting. i would have preferred the all season tires since i may drive in snow occasionally, but i bought my vehicle further south where the "summer" tires were more likely to be fitted on the car. here in maryland it seems that at some dealers they have the all season tires while others do not. maybe most of the crossfires have the michelins and dc received greater discounts for purchasing more of them then the continentals. :?:

 

I can't figure it out either Rob. Mine came with the optional Continentals. Really not all that much mud & snow here in Florida, but all of my dealers Crossfires had them. I'm satisfied though, so far they have been great.

I have a spare set of Continentals that have about 300 miles on them. I would offer to swap with you, except that you already have about a zilion miles on yours, and one of them has a big old patch on it!!!!!

hey that's no way to treat a fellow forum member. revealing that i have high mileage and a wad of orange rubber in the middle of my tread. you ruined my chance to offer ccrossfire a tire trade. i was getting ready to drive the thing back to florida for the exchange. :wink:

 

rob, i puchased my crossfire up in PA where I live permanently and it was equipped w/the continentals; but during the week when I work in DC, I live in maryland.

i've dealt w/most of this yrs snow down here fine (it was only the one bout of ice that was a problem), and dealt w/even more snow up in PA and the tires handled well.

similarly, it goes without saying that i put on many miles quickly (11.5K since mid-october) and the continentals are holding up very well - i'm sure there's wear, but the tread still looks new and i don't have any complaints about the handling and such. happy travels. bonster

But that should in no way stop you from taking another trip to Florida!!!!!

 

Sure bring them on down Rob - I have a set of very slightly :lol: used Volvo 960 tires to trade. Might even throw in some of this nice warm Florida air to pump them up off the ground with :twisted: Best regards - Ccrossfire..........

 

i guess i'll just have to stick with my michelins for now. the wife drove the xf to work today - 3 mile round trip - so i might eventually get this mileage thing under control. i project i should be able to keep it to just under 1300 miles in the first week of ownership. :shock:

after my first drive i might be a little timid to travel more than 200-300 miles from home for a while so the xf may never make it back to her port of entry. that was the first complete flat i've had in at least 10 years.

instead of switching back and forth between winter and summer air :lol: maybe i should just fill the tires with nitrogen.

 

I lived in Southern Maryland (Leonardtown) for 25 years Rob, nice place and I miss it. Used to run my MGTC and B around the back roads there. The Ice storm of 93 when we lost power for 3 days sent us to Florida. I hear helium works well, gives a nice "floating" ride......

 

i live near white marsh in baltimore county. despite living in this area my entire life i've never really explored the southern part of md (other than the eastern shore). will have to take a trip down that way some day.

owner's manual states that when filling tires with helium spoiler must be in the full upright position. :lol: (in a high pitched tone)

 

For what its worth- I have driven all 12 of my dealers crossfires... We have about a 50/50 mix of Continentals versus Michelins on our cars.
The Michelins far out perform the Continentals in cornering/braking/acceleration. BUT... The Continentals are an "all season" tire. Thats the trade off- all season versus performance. Either way- very expensive and fun to install! Be careful driving out there! Already replaced two tires on customers cars because of unattentive drivers!
