Asked for some advice yesterday and purchased a 2005 Crossfire Limited 39K miles for $10,700. Seems to be in "perfect" shape and has new tires.
Also got a 3 month/3000 mile warranty from Chrysler just in case.

Welcome to the forum Austingr, hope to meet ya at the Woodward Av. Dream Cruise. After all, you're from Michigan, and isn't it a requirement for all "car guys/gals" who live there to attend?

I too have just joined and will probably make a XF purchase soon. I'd like some advise if someone would like to chime in. How serious is the steering dampener issue with the 2004's? It's a reliability issue according to MSN Autos. Is it reason enough to seek out a 2005 or later?

Thanks!

No, that should not be a factor. It will happen to all of them. It is not that expensive part at all. It is a "shock" for the steering and will wear out. Unfortunately, faster than it should on this car, but all in all, a small problem. You will have a crank sensor problem, a relay problem, a leak at the transmission sensor and a couple of more POSSIBLE problems, but NONE are major. ALL cars have something and the Crossfire is very reliable over all. I had my 04 for 3 years up to 58k and it was a great car. So much so, that I bought a SRT 6 in April---SO GO FOR IT---The best money you will spend!!!!!

Great info, thanks! I realize you upgraded, but did you find the power of the regular engine adequate?

In a word---yes!!!! I was looking for a 07/08 Limited, and found a SRT 6 with 917 miles, so I pulled the trigger. I am happy, and it does have more power. For 75% of your driving you will not know the difference. When you hit the "go fast pedal"----well, yes there is a "big" difference, but the N/A is a great car.
