So try and hit $11,500. Then say "I also have a trade." and try and get it down to $10,500 or less that way?
There is ALWAYS another person looking at the car---sometimes true and sometimes not. ALL salesmen will chase a car if there is a "duck on the pond"! So, that was BS. Find out WHY it is in the shop---We can help you here if it normal or not. KBB has your car at clean wholesale @ $11,000, so that is why I said NO MORE than $12,200 at the very high end. The lower the better---$11,500 for a clean, no paint work car with the heated seats working, etc. with the low miles would be okay. Like I said I sold a PERFECT car with 58,200 miles for $9950 two weeks ago. I would not pay more than $1500 to $2000 more for the lower miles. Not worth it in my opinion. It's worth SOME increase, but do not get crazy.

Yes, get the $11,500 or lower!!!! Then do the "Oh, I may want to trade my car. What can you give me on it? That is how it should be done. They are TRAINED to do it the other way and talk DIFFERENCE or payment. YOU must ALWAYS talk PRICE--PRICE--PRICE!!!!!

KBB with 31000 miles is

Interesting. The KBB in my area fell another $1k over the past week on that car. Crazy.

$13,300 is the starting ASKING price suggested by KBB.

He mentioned NADA.

NADA on it as clean retail is $10,000 in my area.

He was trying to tell me that was $15,500. LOL

NADA Has $13,500 for retail and $10,800 for trade-in which is clean wholesale.

Pricing

Trade-In Average

Retail Base Price $5,175 $6,350 $7,325 $10,025 Mileage: 31,000 $3,475 $3,475 $3,475 $3,475 This is the ADD for the low miles by the book---worth $1500 to $2000

TOTAL PRICE $8,650 $9,825 $10,800 $13,500* * This Retail price is based on a clean vehicle history report . Don't make a $13,500

You forgot to ADD for the lower miles. That is why you found $10,000 for the retail number.

Some but not 1000's---the mile add is almost $3500 because it is in the luxury car class. KBB is $13,800 and NADA is $13,500 for retail asking price. They will always be within a couple of hundred dollars because they get the same numbers on car sales.

Okay. I'm going to asking $10750, work my way to $11ish and then mention my trade and shoot for $1500 on that. Avg condition trade in is $1875 on that car. Retail on that car is $4500 but they would have to do some rust touch up before selling.

Just remember this---When YOU give up the option to walk away---they got you!!!!! You can always come back or they will call, but always be prepared to walk.

Consider selling it on your own. Like I said the tax savings is less than $100. You have a good price car at $2500 or so retail. Craig's list is free and IT WORKS!!!! I sell half my cars on just the leads from them. It would go quick and you could pick up $700 plus net over a trade in.

If you have the cash, get a cashier's check for the amount and walk in with the check. It's called "the power of the printed word." If you walk in with a check---THEY will NOT let you walk out with it!!! Talk is cheap!!! If you put your money where your mouth is THEY WILL LISTEN!!!! I have done it---it works!!!

Salesmen called me just now.

Said:
- Check engine light issue has been fixed (BS?)
- Come check it out tomorrow and let's work out a deal

I say:
- I need to have my mechanic look over it - I told you that.

He says:
- Come tomorrow morning and get it and let your mechanic look.

I say:
- Can't. I work 8-5pm every day monday through friday

He says:
- What about Thursday?

I say:
- Can I come check it after work tomorrow maybe?

He says:
- Oooooo. I will have to check with my manager to see if that is OK. Maybe Thursday?

I say:
- OK.

He says:
- Do you like the car?

I say:
- It's alright. It's pretty cool I guess. (trying to act not as interested)

He says:
- Well I want to work out a deal with you so I will get back to you as soon as I can on what my manager says.

.... Is he playing a game or do they really just have a dumb "No after 5pm" mechanic check up?

You may just have a bad salesman!!! FIND out what the code was and how they fixed it---very important. If it is "fixed", it will not be a problem to tell you what they did. Have your guy look for paint work---no paint work means no wrecks. At 31k, I'm not concerned with anything major on the mechanical side, but a previous crash could be a problem. Too many great cars out there; if she was "bent" walk away and look for a clean car.

Interesting. I'm going to call tomorrow and tell them I'm interested in wheeling and dealing tomorrow if they are game (end of the month - car i want to trade has to be registered before then if so). I don't even specifically remember the guy's name. I guess we'll see.

Nice looking crossfire, I own a 2006 white coupe with auto and love it. The milage on the one you are looking at is good for a 2004, the car looks good from the pictures. How are the tires? It costs about $700 up to put new tires on these.

But I have to agree that $14K is on the tall side for a 2004. I'd do a search on NADA.com for a better price analysis.

Mine came from a local Chevy dealer near Orlando, FL, he was asking near 14K for this car. The salesman asked if they could email me with their total out the door price, they did and I emailed back that they knew they could do a better price. Then I sat back and waited, about 2-days later I got an email with a tad lower price, so I emailed back that I thought they could do just a little bit better. The next day I got an email from the sales manager of the dealership saying this is the absolute best they could do, which was just a tad over 12K (no trade in and a cash deal). By the by, this was almost the end of the month.

The point here is go in low, because you can always go up, but it's hard to go down on your offer, they tend to look at you funny when you do that.

You can always go in and show them the rust under the doors (really shows up on Alabaster) and tell them to knock off $$$'s for that.

I'm reading some of the snow comments on this forum - anyone in this thread experienced a snowy winter in your crossfire?

I'm thinking about throwing a set of Conti All Seasons on it and trying to truck around in a Nebraska winter. Granted, I'm in a big city so they tend to get the main streets plowed rather quickly - not always the side streets so quick.

I do have a garage spot to park it in

The best thing to do for winter driving is to pick up a cheap set of 16 or 17" Mercedes SLK wheels and slap some tall "skinny" Blizaks on them and put about 100lbs. of weight in the trunk.

Interesting. I have until mid-Nov until we start seeing legitimate downfall so I guess I've got a lot of months to plan for this

Thanks

Guy said the car was "super rare" and they aren't interested in even moving $1,000 from the price they asked.

hahaha.

For reference, got the auto auction report. They bought it for $9,100.

Well, you know what the car is worth---$9,100 because that's what it was bought for---so go from there. Have a cashiers check made out for $10,500---that's a fair profit---about 15% ROI on the car in under 60 days. Then go to the used car MANAGER---not the salesman and show him the check. The manager will NOT let you walk; he wants that check. Talk is cheap; show them the money!!! If they are dumb enough to let you walk, then kill the check and start looking. These car are NOT that rare---forget "super rare." There are many good cars out there. I have sold six GREAT ones.

They will NOT sell that car for a $1000+ over NADA retail---will not happen. If they let you go, be nice and tell them the check is waiting for them up to the time that you find another seller that will take "their" check.

Hey JimmyJames, how often do you go to those auctions and see an srt-6? If you ever get a list with a convertible 6 on it and would take me with you, I'll give you 100 bucks to go with and 500 over whatever it sells for(if we win the bid I mean). I love my SRT coupe, but I fell in love with the vert after I bought it. I never saw a srt-6 convertible in person and didn't think I would like the wing on a vert, so never even really looked for one and settled on a coupe. Found the best deal in Kansas, so I flew out there, picked it up and drove back to Ky. I kid you not, I saw a beautiful blue convertible with a wing pull up next to me and fell in love. The hot blonde driving may have had a bit to do with it though. LOL For the older guys out there, I had a Clark Grisswold moment. I nearly broke my awesome new car's fabulous cupholder! LOL
