Looking @ buying a White 2004 Chrysler Crossfire Coupe Ltd.

First - what things are known problems and should be looked @ before deciding on purchase?

Second - how should I expect a crossfire to perform in snow? Just like any other rear wheel drive car?

Third - What do you think of the one I have linked?

I'm going to likely offer $11k + trade of a 96 white maxima SE that has 150k on it and is worth maybe $1,500ish. (talk about huge upgrade! )

The carfax is also included in there as well if you guys want to look at that.

Things I'd consider upgrading - rims, paint the top black to match the back window (saw this on a picture on google images from here - thats why i joined), new custom deck for music/mp3 (any suggestions?), etc etc

2004 Chrysler Crossfire, $14,487 - Cars.com

Thanks,

Husker

Price seems a bit high for a 2004. Asking price is Krazy!

KBB is $13,300 retail.

What do you think is reasonable?

I haven't made any offers (or even driven it yet)... Just want to make sure I am informed when I walk in.

Hi,

You are very right, the white fits so well to the Crossfire. SO Well.

I bought mine a few months ago

Clean carfax, black / red interior. no ding, nothing on the rims

I got a full gas thank, a cover and the owner came to pick me up at the airport

Car had 22800 miles

14k is high, it is not high for that car but right now people are not very in live with 2 strict seater.

PM me if you want.

My car was perfect condition. look at the rims.. when they are clean after 6 or 7 years being on the road, it tells you a lot about the previous owner or take the car to a AAA mechanic. if you aaa they have a special for 39 bucks when you buy a used car, coupon discount

Hope this helped..

Max

I love my Alabaster '04. I bought it with 49k on it for $9,750. The asking price on yours is indeed too high, even for the auto. I would offer $10k plus the trade for it.

Make sure you try the seat heaters. They probably don't work, and that may get you a little off the cost.

Interesting. $10k plus trade would be fantastic as I suspect I will need to buy a set of Continental all seasons for about $700ish for the winter months.

Your offer of $11,000 + $1500 for your trade seems more than generous. Don't go any higher on your offer.

IF the tires are not all season, you won't be able to drive in snow with summer tires! Figure $1000 for a 4 tire set of Good all season tires. Make sure everything works (my heated drive's seat only heated the back support). Drive the car for at least an hour in city and freeway traffic. If in doubt pay a mechanic to get it on a lft and do a thorough check for leaks , suspension, exhaust, front end, etc. etc.

Good luck. I have an identical twin of your Crossfire. Price was $11, 900 with 24K 2 years ago.

so you guys are thinking more like $10k + trade @ MOST?

Hopefully they are OK with that. It's been sold @ auction twice and they've had it on their lot since 5/19 so I'm thinking they might swing a deal.

We will see how everything works. My neighbor is a master mechanic and he is going to put it on a lift and do a thorough check of it before I consider offering anything.

Drove the car tonight. Salesman played dumb like he didn't know that they were a hard to move car.

My number one question - Do you get used to the limited view fairly quickly? I was amazed at how small the car really was.

Hi,

I loved the car, bought it without driving it before. don`t do that
but karma was here so all is fine
Previous owner was meticulous.
if you have stock tires, then expect great improvement with the dws continental..day and night

pm if you have more question

Here is what the dealers are paying at auction. It looks like they are paying up for low miles (usually do, but this month seems a little higher, actually all the prices for Crossfires have gone up in the last two months). I sell cars, and this is the auction report as of this morning. A buy fee of $250 or so will be added PLUS any clean-up, dent removal, brakes, etc. I just sold a PERFECT 04, gray, automatic (worth $500-600 more) for $9950 two weeks ago. With the lower miles, your car is worth RETAIL (forget KBB) $11,500 to 12,200---tops. KBB said my car was worth $11,800 retail. NADA was $12,000---that would have NEVER happened. KBB Private Party Excellent condition is Clean Wholesale. They do not call it that, but the numbers are ALWAYS within a couple of hundred of Black Book (the dealer wholesale book).

Good Luck!!!!!

EDIT: They are slower moving cars IF you ask too much for them---which at $14,500 they are. Priced right I can move a Crossfire in under six weeks. I have sold six so far and own a SRT 6 personally. I guess some pay full retail, but I have not found them---HA!!!! Your car plus $10,000 and ZERO doc fees would be okay---maybe $10,500 plus the car ONLY IF the car has NEVER been hit and is clean with good tires, etc. Are the heated seats working?---ALL go out---CHECK!!! Trans leak at the plug for the TCM?---ALL leak, no big deal, but use it as a negotiation point. Have the car checked out---CAR FAX is NOT enough. It's a great start, but that is it. No paint work is a big deal!

EDIT #2: Take your trade out of the deal!!!! Any car that runs and looks OK is worth $1500 to 2000 on Craig's list. I would be an easy sell. I know that many do not like it, but the dealler can "play" with numbers if you let him. Both cars should be negotiated SEPARATELY---professional advice!!! Working them together is playing their/my game!!!! You will be saving less than an hundred dollars in sales tax. Just a thought!!!!!

Interesting.

So if I am trading in my vehicle I should have them inspect it and everything and have them give me a number on what THEY would pay for it before negotiating the price on the Crossfire?

The 96 Maxima has every option and is SE but it's got a little rust here and there and 150k+ ( ) miles on it.

No, the other way around. Get the price on the Crossfire FIRST---Upper 11's to low 12's would be my price if I was selling the car----ASSUMING it's a clean car with NO paint work, etc.

Negotiate the car down and then say " I also have a trade " and have them evaluate that... Alright... interesting.

Yes---It's called "sliding in the trade." It does not allow the dealer to confuse the numbers. Get the price that you want on the car you are buying THEN get the price you can LIVE WITH on the trade. You must remember that the dealer must make something on the trade if it is only a few bucks.

New car FIRST---THEN the trade. If they ask if you have a trade (and they will) say not at this time, I may sell it to my cousin, etc.

Interesting negotiation tactics. This is my first time buying a car personally (20 yrs old) but my dad has always been a negotiating maniac so I've been taking him with me.

They have it being fixed for a check engine light and then they will let me drive it to my personal mechanic to have him look it over for me more in depth. He said it might be as soon as tonight.

Do I delay in doing that a day or two to make him think my interest isn't as high as it probably is?

Well I will help if I can. Waiting is not that be of a deal. I would rather the dealership know that I was a REAL player than just a "looker." Have the KBB private party excellent and HOLD to that. You and I as well as them can say anything, but numbers do not lie!!! The car is worth $11,500 to low 12's and that is it. I have shown the numbers. Make them tell you why YOU are WRONG---They can not!!!

Sounds good. I've shared some of the stuff you've talked about with me to my Dad.

He made some comment yesterday when we test drove that "another person came in yesterday to look @ the car but it was in the shop and the salesman who talked to him wasn't interested in chasing the car down out of the shop". BULLSCHNAZZ

So try and hit $11,500. Then say "I also have a trade." and try and get it down to $10,500 or less that way?
