What tighed1 said - I will add that our cars locks and gas door are operated by a pnumatic system and when a line breaks, no lock and it can just break so the rear hatch wont lock. Same thing happened to me. My car was under warranty at the time so I had the dealer fix it.

It would have been a bigger pain if the line had broken with the hatch locked.
If the line is broken in the rubber boot at the top of the hatch on the right hand side, it can be simply repaired by splicing it with a larger piece of tubing that is a tight fit over the yellow existing tube. Hopefully it is accessible enough to get at.
When you pull the boot back you will see some wires, on mine the yellow line was hidden behind these wires.

No, it isn't. A huge pain is troubleshoooting the ELECTRIC locks in a Ford Van

You OBVIOUSLY have a broken or disconnected air line, or a "frozen up" mechanism in the hatch.

What is NOT obvious is what is wrong in my van's lock system - we have torn all four panels off and TRIED to troubleshoot the system -but gave up. I lock and unlock my van manually.

I'd be afraid of them screwing around with "waiting for parts". Fact is, they probably WON"T have parts in stock for it. But sure, I guess you can - it's a Chrysler product, you'd THINK they can work on it. (And if it IS a broken hose or leaking hose - if they are worth their names, they should be able to come up with a fix without waiting for the exact hose from Germany! But don't count on it.)

But it SHOULD be fairly easy to fix yourself. But I know, not all of us are interested in working on our cars... most of us here are, but it's understandable if you don't want to.

Just be prepared: those people make a LIVING out of working on cars - this will cost you.
