Crossfire Versus Mercedes Benz Car Classifications...
I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to MB Cars and their Models/Designations (I'm much better when it comes to BMW's).
Sometimes I'll surf over to the MBWorld Forum and look around.
Mercedes Benz C Class E Class AMG News: Review, Preview. Owners, Repair, Wheels - MBWorld.org
There are a few Forums listed on MBWorld that I think are Crossfire relevent, but I wasn't sure which ones were worth viewing.
Here's the MBWorld Forum list that I thought made sense, and could use a sanity check from the informed if I'm on right track:
SLK-Class (R170) ~ Xfire N/A
SLK 32 AMG (R170) ~ Xfire SRT
SLK 55 (R171) ~ Not relevant to Xfire
SLK-Class (R171) ~ Not relevant to Xfire
If there's a better MB Forum for Xfire owners to cruise, I'd like to hear about it...
Thanx...

The Crossfire is an R170 SLK320.
The SRT6 is an R170 SLK32 AMG.
Most Mercedes model numbers are simply (Class)(Displacement), similar to BMWs. So the SLK320 is an SLK (2-seat coupe) with a 3.2 L V6.

I also noticed on the MBWorld Forum for SLK-Class (R170), that there are threads posted for both the SLK320 and the SLK230.
Should I disregard the SLK230 as not Xfire related.....???
(I told you I was clueless when it came to a Benz)...LOL...
If anyone is aware of any other quality MBForums worth crusing, kindly post...
Thanx...

The SLK230 is the very first SLK from Mercedes. It has a 2.3L I4 engine with a kompressor/supercharger. They made this model from 1996-2004 I think, which is the entire lifespan of the R170 (1st generation SLK).
It wasn't until 2001 when SLK320 came out, which is what your Crossfires (non-SRT6) are based on.
In Europe and some other countries, they had an even smaller engine as well, the SLK200, which I believe is a 2.0L I4 with a Kompressor.
MB stopped making the R170 in early 2004 and started producing its successor, the R171 (current SLK body style), which went on to sell as a 2005 model year. This timing coincides with the start of the Crossfire production, (correct me if I'm wrong here please) and thus, the Crossfire is born!

Thanks for clearing that up, I stand corrected! I guess there was a year of overlap then.
I wonder if Chrysler will make a new Crossfire based on the current SLK when MB retires it later this year, or is the partnership/ownership/bed-sharing over between MB and Chrysler?

I think that's "Sport Leicht", or Sport Light in English. it might be "Grosse Leicht" for Super...

Maybe they're cooking up a Xfire with a Ferrari underneath (Fiat is an 85% owner of Ferrari)...lol...
I can imagine the sticker price on that contraption...

Well, if they do make a XF with a Ferrari engine I can guarantee someone on this forum will start bitchin' that performance parts are hard to find and are overpriced.

I owned a Fiat 850 Spyder during the 1973 gas crisis. If I recall correctly I think I was getting somewhere in the neighborhood of around 35 mph highway.
And before the gas crisis of '73, I could fill the tank up for something like $4 bucks.
The problem was that the car would rot out right before your very eyes.
The car started pulling to the left, so I took it to a shop, and when the mechanic called me over to the lift, he showed me where the wheelwell was starting to separate from the frame due to rust/rot.
He then took his finger and started pushing holes thru the undercarriage.
Two days later driving I'm with a lady friend, and she accidently pushes her foot thru the passenger floor board.
Funny thing was I loved that car.
It's great when your young and don't know any better...

Well, we could always hope for something more like this Fiat.
