More "Things I didn't know about my XFire"
 

I remember seeing a thread where someone found out something about their car, some little feature, explained somewhere in the owner's manual. I was into my owner's manual today, looking something up, and found out 2 things I didn't know.

#1 - The dipstick is there as a backup method for checking the oil. The primary method is on your dash and includes a sensor in the oil pan. Turn the key to the on position and wait until you see an oil can in your trip odometer. Push the button on the left twice, and the trip odometer and odometer will tell you if the oil level is OK, 1 qt low, 1.5 qts low...

#2 - If you want to sit in the car for a few minutes after you turn it off, and it's cold outside - if you hit the recirc button, the fan will come on and continue to blow hot air for a little while.

I would bet there are at least a few long time XFire owners who weren't aware of either of these somewhat obscure features.

I knew about the but my lazy streak wouldn't let me use them. :(

I know. It's all these little features that keeps us loving our cars. If the radio is on when you turn the key off, hit the power button immediately and the radio stays on longer, about 15 minutes. :D

I believe it's One Hour...

When re-setting my FSS the other day, I ended up in that mode and noticed the oil icon and the display as you mention...but didn't know what exactly I was looking at .... now I know! Thanks!

Here's one I just found out.....the other day when taking the Crossfire out for it's first run of the year...I noticed the dome light remaining on longer then usual when closing the door. It would eventually fade out...but would remain lit for almost 5min. I thought it was a failing component....nope.....the hatch hadn't closed properly to a complete lock...

Aftermarket stereo in mine. Won't do that.

One thing I miss... being a long time Chrysler/Jeep guy. In all their vehicles, you can roll the windows up or down after you turn off the car and take out the key, as long as you don't open a door. In the XFire, the key has to be on. Can't tell you how many times I have to stick the key back in and on to roll up my windows. PITA!

I bought a Blaupunkt St Louis. Hit the blue/power button, stereo comes on. Just like the Infinity unit.

I always considered the DIPSTICK to be the primary method for checking the oil, and the DASHBOARD as the backup method. ;)

Agee... I also try to pretend I don't have a cup holder. the heat feature worked great in the wonter time. I turn in go into a restraunt and the car is still comfortable when I get back in.

I agree. But this dipstick has gotten lazy for so long I had to go outside today, open the hood, and find the one on the engine.

Or was that the tranny? No I have a manual. Must 've been the dipsstck.;)

Went to the gas station and bought a soda. Wanted to sit in my car and take a few quick sips without starting the car. Hit the recirc button while the car was off. Started to blow a little cold air. Felt great! Perfect in 100 degree Texas weather! 5 minutes later I started the car and left.

I love my crossfire. I don't drive it often anymore. It was a great daily driver for the first 4 years. Every time I drive it now I remember how much I appreciate it and how great the car actually is.

I can't get number one to work properly? I turn the car to ELECTRIC on (one turn before the actual engine turns) and I wait... but no oil pan in the trip miles (above the actual car milage) - what am I doing wrong? - how long am i suppose to wait for the oil can symbol to appear?

EDIT: I got it - I just had to wait about 45 seconds before the Oil Icon is displayed - now, I'm still having trouble displaying my oil level. As soon as the Oil icon turns on, I press the LEFT gage button two times, and it stays blank?

As stated, this works in regards to the AC as well, after all, this time of year, NO ONE should be using their heat....

Another nice thing, when you hit the recirc after using the air conditioning, it allows all the moisture to be purged from the system so you have no foul smells next time you turn it on.

Discovered a "new" one the other day....when getting in the car the dome light would remain on longer then usual, in fact it would stay on for a few minutes before dimming as normal. It was telling me the rear hatch wasn't closed properly.....:cool:

Yep...also extends the life of the evaporator. I always turn the A/C off minutes before arriving at my destination, particularly after a long trip to "dry" everything out....I have done this for years with my cars, starting with a '94 Volvo 850 that were famous for failing evaporators. Years later Volvo implemented a blower that continues to blow for a few minutes after turning the ignition off.....
