Lovebugs and the Crossfire
No - not your husband, wife, or "significant other" - the kind that fly through the air and leave their remains all over your car. Florida drivers know for sure what I mean as do, to a lesser extent - Texas and deep South drivers. These bugs "fly united" tail to 'er tail reproducing as they go. They give real meaning to the expression "splat" as they leave their gish all over. It is quite acidic and will damage paint if left unattended.
I just returned from a trip through the "hills" of rural Florida and the front of my SSB Crossfire was black and yellow from the critters, hundreds of them in loves last embrace covered the entire front of my car. A quick washdown and repolish took care of the remains but I'm retiring my Crossfire for at least three weeks until the little lovemakers satisfy natures reproductive call.
BTW after a spirited trip with the Crossfire I have developed the habit of popping the hood and letting the heat from the engine out as the hood is so well insulated it tends to keep the heat in. Found hundreds of lovebugs in there too. This time a vacuum and paper towels did the job. Nasty creatures.

might reinforce the part about cleaning 'em off immediately. had a long and stern talk(stern-him, sheepish-me) with my detail guy about my failure to jump out and wash off the bugutz immediately. the caustic oooze really does leave permanent pits in the paint.

Come to think about it, we didn't see a bike rider today :? . I remember when I used to ride, I had one of those European brain buckets that had a complete plexiglas shield that you could clip on to it. Would come in real handy in bug season here.
And greg - never have had a bird pee in my car before, but a friend discovered a rattlesnake in the passengers side foot well while he was driving his Corvette, pulled over real quick he did
