I'm Confused
When I had my '04, I always used Mobil 1 0-40. Now, on my '08, the filler cap states that Mobil 1 10-40 should be used.
Of course, I didn't read the cap until after I'd done an oil change with 0-40.
Any explanations?

The low viscosity is for cold weather starting.

Don, the wife just left for work in her '08 so I can't look at the cap right now, but......pg. 267 of the '08 owner's manual still says ..."such as Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40."
Mobil1 0w-40 claims European spec. 5w- and 10w- do not. Since mine are summer drivers (and low viscosity for ultra cold weather is not an issue), I use 5w-40 which I can often buy in 5 qt jugs at Wally world for $24. On the other hand, my A6 2.7T gets 0w- year round.
Does anyone else have trouble finding 0W-40? I live in the Tundra of Desolation yet I can never find 0W-40. The only Mobil 1 I can find that weight is the Turbo Diesel, but I know that has a really hi zinc content for tappet motors (Audi).

Obviously you are only referring to Mobil's 5W-40 products.
Their 5W-40 motor oil is called Turbo Diesel Truck.
I know you aren't referring to other companies 5W products.
If you are, you're massively incorrect in your statement, as there are quite a few other oils that carry European brand approvals that come in 5W-30 and 5W-40 flavors.
BC.

OK, I have an '08 and I just went and checked my cap - it doesn't list an oil spec on it at all, only something along the lines of oil level must not exceed max or engine damage may occur - in both english and german...
