Turtle Wax "Black Box" is epic
Hey guys this is Jon Ross Fowler, I posed a thread on here a couple of months ago regarding the best wax for a black car, I purchased turtle wax's black box paint kit and I can honestly say the results are astounding! It not only took out the swirl marks and holograms, it also takes out minor scratches and rock chips, it is a must buy if you are serious about making your black x fire look epic! JR

do they have a white box kit? LOL!

Humor aside, I bought this the other week and just need to find the time to use it. Glad to hear it works well, justifies the price.
I (actually my daughter) has been using Blue Ice on her black 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 because it does not leave any white residue, but I'll have to look into this product. Thanks.
As a reformed detailing fanatic anything made by Turtle Wax makes me cringe. For a black car I recommend a base polymer wax such as Meguiars NXT for solid protection, topped with a high quality carnauba wax such as P21S S100 or Meguiars Gold Class. Another thing to note is that if it is taking out swirls and marks, it has an abrasive element (I would assume it is a "cleaner wax") and it is worth taking that into consideration.

The bad part, unless you actually 'polished' the car, you can not remove swirl marks and scratches, but you can cover them up. The problem with that 'black box' is that it is simply an overpriced wax with actual black color pigment in it. When you wax, it fills in those rock chips, scratches, and swirls, but a few weeks later (depending on how often and under what circumstances the car is driven) it will look the same way it did.
If the car was polished and a good wax was added, you would have much better long term results.
What really matter is that you are happy, now that I don't have a black car to keep clean anymore, I am happy as well

I received this wax for Christmas, and have been waiting for it to warm up in Michigan, so I could try it.
After reading some pro's and con's about it, I am not so sure I want to use it now. My black 05 has a pristine paint job, no swirels or scratches to speak of, and I use Meguires and carnuba, so it is well waxed.
What to do, What to do, I also am a detail fanantic, so I think I may just hold off on the Turtle Was for awhile.
As usual, lots of good info on the forums, thanks guys.

Let me know,
As others have stated, it's not actually removing anything (especially NOT rock chips) but it is very effectively hiding things. That's not necessarily a bad thing since not everyone is willing to put in the time needed to actually eliminate defects from the paint. We all have our goals and we all like what we like. While I'm not a fan of this particular product, I will say this: Jon, if you like it and that prompts you to use it regularly, and you're happy with the result, that's all that really matters.
