2005 car start issue
2005 car start issue
My wife drove our car to work today and had the following happen when she was leaving:
1) She started the car and it revved and then died. It was probably 35°F at the time.
2) She removed the key, put it back in and the engine wouldn’t start, but, the accessories would (radio, lights, etc.,).
3) She turned it off, removed the key, reinserted it and the car started normally.
Any thoughts on what could cause this? It worked fine on the 5 mile trip home & started up normally when she got home (turned it off and back on)...
Thanks!

If not, yank the RCM and send it to DJ for refurbishing.
If the starter DID engage, we will have a lot more questions.
Re: 2005 car start issue
I found this link while researching... is it still accurate and is the RCM fixable with a simple soldering iron?

However, in many instances the contacts inside go bad and in that case you must send it to DJ for rebuild or replace with new, If you can afford it, it is best to replace it and send your current one to DY for rebuild and keep it as a spare, The new one will be in the neighborhood of $200.00 and DJ charges about $50.00 for the rebuild. It is plug and play.
Re: 2005 car start issue
I appreciate the information and will get a new module & send the other one to DJ. Two questions:
1) I’m not good at tying names to accounts, who is DJ & are the charges and address the same as the link that I included above ($37)? I ask because the link is over ten years old now, hehe.
2) Is it possible to add the mod so the horn beeps when you lock/unlock the car?
Thanks,
- Brian

2) That is really a separate issue. There are at least two ways to get that done. I'd ask DJ.

As far as I know, no one set up a horn beeping when the car is locked or unlocked. The beep that the siren does is a 'chirp' that is built in to the newer sirens. You can put a 'chirping speaker' in the under hood fuse box, wired to a relay already there. Searching chirping in the forum, that might find the posts. Good luck!
