I just bought the Crossfire and love it . I do have a question about the tires. The ride is very stiff, especially on rough roads and big bumps. Is it possible the tires are overly inflated. Do you guys have the same type of ride? Very stiff? Thanks for any help

 

Yep... with those low-profile tires and the stiffish suspension on the Crossfire, you're going to feel every little pit in the road.

It may bother some people, but I love it. There's a short stretch of Highway 4 on the way I take home from work that's a bit chewed up, and it brings a smile to my face every time I run through it.

I would highly suggest buying a good tire gauge and checking the tires yourself as mine were over inflated when I checked. After lowering the pressure my ride was much better.

 

I'm with Trick. At first it even scared me when I drove in the fast lane that was grooved for rain dispersion, but if the grooves weren't perfectly straight, the car moved from side to side right along with them! One of the guys reminded me that that's what high performance tires do...hug every little bit of road...now that feeling is kinda cool...am getting what I paid for.

 

funny, i don't think of the crossfire as a stiff car, as sportscars go. actually, before i ran it, i was thinking that it would probably be too stiff for me but thats not the case. it does soften the really hard stuff and is generally kind to my back while also being really sticky and providing nice feedback.

It is supposed to be stiff to give you good handling. It is no way near as stiff as other sports cars though. Is you soften the ride up you won't have the same driving experience and you will suffer in the handling.

 

Sometimes I wonder... how MANY threads are there here where Dan Root offers someone something if they'll PM him? Water softener, tires, whatever... :?:

Take an RX8 out for a test drive. Then you will know what a rough ride is! One of the reasons I purchased my Xfire over the RX8 was how much better it rode. I test drove both within an hour so I could really appreciate the difference.

 

My suggestions are base on the person's ? Therefore there is more than 1 answer, based on the individuals' needs!I'm sure there's a way to make it ride and handle without alot of compromise.But since there is already other numerious answers here on this forum for tires i did not wish rehash with all sorry.I have asked for PMs because it limts the B.S.Regarding water i was trained and know the problems,and the solutions!Tires ive driven the best and can explain directly to a??Only!And what i woud do for a better ride without spending $$$ for not much change.Have a nice day!

 

If you wanted a softer ride, you would have to switch out the wheels. I'd say do 16 or 17" wheels and adjust the tires to fit. Discount Tire could make some suggestions on what you could go with. Basically you would be filling up more space with tire than wheel, making the ride not so stiff.

If you are running on the michelin tires, go with the continentals. They are much softer.

I still think it is funny you think this ride is stiff. Go drive an SRT 4 or any other "sports type car". Those are stiff. This is very mild.

 

Great general answer DFWSBR ,Ditto all you said,but i think you just put !8" in the rear and different tires like you said.The MicHes are hard but,maybe just changing them would do it for lynn.That would be the least $$ out!

 

Ok Guys, my mechanic suggested I put the pressure down to 28 psi and see what happens. It seems to be riding smoother. Whats the lowest pressure I can run on these?

 

You've got my sympathy if most of your driving is in DC. The streets there are in pathetic shape. You can sure feel the road surface imperfections (that's an understatement!) in the Crossfire's non-cushy suspension.

 

I'd beg to differ with your mechanic... follow the recommended tire press in your owner's manual. If you wanted a soft ride, you bought the wrong car.
