Default Poll re: "Total BS" thread

Total BS wrote complaining of a reckless driving ticket for 105 m.p.h. Lots of posts and advice on stops, etc. Reading the same, and in my arrogant way, I'm wondering if I have a record. What is the worst offense for which you were stopped and got away with only a warning. Mine was for 113 in my red Jaguar on I 40 in AZ.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, I'm pretty sure a warning is just that, not an actual offense. I've gotten around a dozen warnings in various states and nothing ever came of them.

Probably my favorite warning was about 20 years ago when I was driving back with my wife (then fiance) from Ft Hood, TX to Greeley, CO. Speed limit was 65 and I was going 75-80. A Texas Ranger pulled me over. I explained that I was driving back home for school (16 hour drive). The car ('87 Camaro) was fully loaded with my wife's stuff. He must have taken pity on me and let me off with a warning.

Another fun one was when we were traveling back from Colorado Springs to Omaha, NE 16 years ago or so. This was right before Kansas raised the speed limit to 70. I was probably going 75 in 65 again. Kansas State Trooper pulled me over. My wife was pregnant at the time. There was a rest area about 2 miles up the road. I told the trooper that I was trying to get to the rest area as my wife had morning sickness. He took my license and told me to go to the rest area. We get there, my wife runs to the restroom to laugh it all off. Trooper only gave me a warning. BTW, those Kansas State Troopers love to hide on the overpasses where there are a bunch of trees and evergreens (on I-70).

I have only had two tickets in my life (thankfully not in Colorado). The first was for doing 81 in a 55 in western Kansas on a two-lane road (US 40 - never ever saw a trooper on this road before) and the second for supposedly doing 70 in 55 in western North Carolina.

You were lucky Itsky. On my way from Columbus to Ft. Knox in 68 I got pulled over in Shelby Ky. The cop told me catch'n soldiers on Sunday nite going back to base was so easy that the cops didn't even consider it sport.

On the nite my oldest grandson was born my wife talked me out of a speed'n ticket. I was prob about 20 over. I've only had about 6 warnings. They were mostly equipment related....read loud mufflers there.

When I was in the USAF in '79 I was going through Illinois on my was home and got stopped for 73 in a 55 by a State Trooper. I tried to badge him ( I was USAF SP at the time). He said "thats nice, I was one too" and wrote me a ticket anyway. He even gave me an envelope for the fine - addressed and stamped - took me to the courthouse to deposit it in a mailbox and said have a nice day.

My favorite warning was on the east side of the dragon. Kim and I were at the bottom letting the car cool down and I'd be damned if that ugly yellow roadster didn't attract that man directly to Kim. Of course Kim starts BS with him and doing her best to be the innocent Catholic school girl. After about 15 minutes he finally let us go.

Alex, Tom, and myself were just completing a run of the Dragon and there was a cop who spotted us at about 20+ over the limit. We all immediately slowed down, but when Alex passed him, he 'got on it' and the cop 'got on us'.

He hopped into his car and tore *** after us, he pulled us over kind of at the end/beginning. He let us know that he knows that us 'rich' folks out here in our expensive cars can probably afford tickets, and he would be giving us all that he could if he saw us misbehaving again on 'his' roads. If Alex had not hit the accelerator when he did, I don't think we would have met the officer that day, but since it was a warning, no harm, no foul.

Whenever I go to the Dragon, I anticipate the cost of a ticket into the trip, just in case

While I can't beat the record set thus far by Vegaslegal, I can share this:

Back in the late '80s I was blasting across southern Illinios, rolling hills and all. As I crested a rise my radar detector went ballistic and I stood on the brakes to scrub speed. An Illinois trooper lit 'em up in the center median, peeking out from behind a big ol' rock, and I knew I was busted. I pulled over and waited for the patrol car to come up behind me.

To my surprise a very petite woman emerged from the patrol car and donned her big ol' smokey hat. And for those of who think this story is about to take a somewhat perverted twist...... perverts!!!

Anyway........ this petite lady officer walks up to my car and suddenly has a surprised look on her face when we make eye contact. The firs words out of her mouth were "Hey now, didn't I stop you here last week? Remember what I told you; I'd let you go this once but if I catch you again you're in trouble!". I immediately shot back "No ma'am, that wasn't me, I promise. But if that's your standard procedure, I'm holding you to it!!". She took my paper work back to the car and returned in a couple of minutes. She then said to me "I shoulda kept my mouth shut. You're right, it wasn't you last week. And now I suppose I have to let you go. But you know the rest of the story now, so I don't want to see you out here again, understand?".

"Oh, no ma'am, you won't see me here again".

I lived in Indianapolis for two years and covered 5 states by car back in the late '80s. I got pulled over 5 times in those two years (that's by far a personal record for me) and not once did I get a ticket.

Wow, lot of lenient laws and troopers for you all.

In Washington State, a Reckless Driving Citation means your car gets the hook and you go to the pokey. They will usually release you right after processing, but you are going to get arrested.

My brother bought a Kawasaki Hyabusa (sp) a few years back, I borrowed it to run across the State from Seattle to Spokane - crossing the desert just after dawn I let that bike unwind a bit - air patrol claimed I was clocked at 142 (this was explained to me in the back of the patrol car on my way to lock up in Moses Lake)

Not sure where it changes from speeding to reckless, but that's the only time they got me on anything over 100.

Got me in the XF doing 90 in a 70 - that was a spendy ticket ($300+) but they let me go.

Have never talked my way out of ticket - have made thing worse by opening my mouth, so these days I become Mr. Mute if I have to deal with the Po-lice. Single word answers, volunteer nothing.
