Church called, Apparently I've pissed off old people
So the Neighborhood I go to Church in just recently joined Metro Nashville. In other words no more local police department (Barney fife), so the neighborhood watch is totally a big thing right now. Well I left Church tonight and kicked it for the small strip to the stop sign (45mph max) Anyway a few miles down the road I'm getting a phone call from one of my Pastors telling me someone just called the Church completely irate that a loud silver mercedes was flying through their neighborhood. They even threatened to call the police.
I told the pastor that maybe I need to do it more often and we might get more people in Church.
I'm also thinking about getting a few wooden stakes and some poster board for a special sign for this Sunday. "Rev your engine if you love Jesus"

Sort of makes me think of an old saying "Hell on Wheels"
Ya better use the confessional next Sunday and then ride your bicycle home...LOL

But Nick, YOUR car SOUNDS like it's doing 100 when it's doing 30 (or, well, it CAN sound that way).
This is partly why mine still has the factory exhaust on it - I can zip around and almost no one hears me!
Sometimes, you just don't need the attention.
Also, driving a Mercedes is it's own peril, it makes people think you are rich. And it is very fashionable to hate the rich. For the purpose of this hate, 'rich' is anyone with a dime more than you OR who LOOKS like they have a dime more than you.
Even the Crossfire can cause this reaction in a small town. Like the one I lived in until last fall. Where I live now, people are very affluent. My car is largely ignored. Back in Griffin I got a lot more compliments on it - but I also got more negative attention.
I think I'll stay where I'm at.

Nick,Just curious. I'm having a hard time with a mental picture of you setting in Church. Do you sit on the front row or back row?

Hey, it was NICK who had me get up EARLY Sunday for my ride with him, so that we could make the Church Service at Fontana!
He sat in the back row, but only cause we got there at the last minute... I mean, I assume.

Everyone in my neighborhood has an agreement-we don't speed or make much noise. 25 MPH and kids and dogs and old people...you get my drift?
But you can still hear my exhaust when I hit the highway (1/4 mile away).
But not in the neighborhood. It just makes sense.

I think it is just a matter of what people are accustomed to.
I live across the road from the First Baptist Church here, on Highway 49.
This is the weekend route for all the bikers on the run to Cheaha Mountain, a sort of mini-dragon.
They make plenty of noise going by on Sunday morning in groups of 3 - 20, no one ever has complained as far a I know.
The speed limit is 25 - hardly any are below 45.
Maybe it is because they help the local economy ( what there is of it ) a bit .........

My neighborhood is a dirt road and people fly down it at 60!! sometimes 80+!!!. Then we call the sherrif, then they find the persons drunk, then they find drugs, then they get arrested with the wife trying to assault one of the officers and the kids hopping the fences. Its to the point where people never go outside when someone gets busted now cause its old news. Usually you see the crowd assemble around the criminal lol not here. And its always the same sets of families. All the places on the street are run down single wide trailors... except my parents lol its a 3 wide, single on the end manufactured home with half the 1.2 acre grass.
More people around my area NEED to go to church.

Recently I had someone walk up to me in a store. Apparently he was walking in the middle of the road and felt I almost hit him. Then he comes into the store to look for me. A real scum of the Earth looking guy. I told him to call the police. I didn't get nasty and did my best to control the situation without it getting out of control. He ended up walking away. Honestly, I am shocked he didn't pull out a gun or throw a punch at me. Why would a person seek someone out like that? Situations like that only end bad for everyone. People today are insane! Be careful out there! Next thing you know someone will mess with your car while you are in church!

Dave, I would have responded to this yesterday but it took 24 hours for me to stop giggling.
