Why no used X's over 100k miles?

I've been looking for a used X and noticed that there are zero used X's for sale over 60k miles let alone 100k... why is that? There isnt a self destruct mileage is there?

I'm looking into getting a used X as a daily driver... i usually hit about 50 miles a day going to and from work.

I've been searching around and the only common problems i've been able to find is a rust problem and the bottom of the doors... and also the rear window popping out of the rag-top but i'm looking to get a Coupe anyway so thats square.

I was also reading that this uses Mercedes engine and transmission... which are quite expensive to fix but usually have no issues at all with them.

Any insight for a prospective new owner would be appreciated!
Thanks all!

The ones with a 100k or more sell for a premium. Kinda like fine wine.

Yeah they are no cheap toy...but are an amazing figure on the street. I'm getting a new transmission installed in mine and even the transmission fluid is ridiculously expensive if fixed through dealer or some place like Mr. Transmission (don't recommend them btw, they're more expensive than a dealer). It only takes premium gas, top notch synthetic oil and fluids. It has the same engine, transmission and frame as a Mercedes SLK...but looks better, at least better than the SLK's ugly rear. It is a Mercedes with a Chrysler coat. The last of the Daimler-Benz breeds. Its not bad to fix if you have the time and do your research but I'm not saying (in comparison to other vehicles) that its not pricy to fix either.

It is a beautiful car and great ride. I definitely recommend this car.
Only thing for you I would really consider is because it uses premium gas only that having this as a daily driver could get quite expensive, especially with these gas prices.

lol....

I'm in the Chicago area and do a 75mi radius search and come up with 60k being the max.

And we had to ask the location why?

The gas part dosent really bother me... i'm trading in a '97 Acura Integra GSR which also took Premium and have always used Mobile 1 Synthetic in her with Redline tranny fluid (is a 5-speed), but now the wife and I will be diving this... my other "car" is a Nissan Armada. at 13mpg... yeah premium gas at 25mpg for the X dosent really bother me :D

Another note... i was reading something about premature tire wear on these as well, I know the 350z's and some Chargers have this problem too, uneven wear and blow out because of some type of suspension issues... is this usual on the X or no? I've only seen one guy talk about it, maybe he's just lead footing it all the time...

Just keep looking.....one will show up. Tire wear isn't any different than any other car. Plenty of XF owners in Chi town area that would keep an eye out for you. Valk, FP, and a host of others are pretty active members... And if you can own those types of cars and survive, you will like the XF....lol

Re: Why no used X's over 100k miles?

Another thing to consider is that in the snowy, icy climates, a lot of owners garage them in the winter to keep them safe. This means less miles driven. There are more high mileage Crossfires in the milder climates.

I bought my 2005 NA Limited coupe new in November of 2004 with 23 miles on it. It is my daily driver (NE Florida so no snow issues) and I put a min of 44 miles on it per day. I've driven it to North Dakota once, northern VA and South Carolina at least three times, South FL once each year, and all over town whenever I feel like it, and mine has only 94,000 miles on it. All this is just to say there might not be many 100k Crossfires out there. Its a terrific little car. Tires are expensive and don't last long because they are UHP tires and you won't get more than 20k to 25k miles, if you're lucky. Fluids are expensive because they're MB specs. It's no more or no less reliable than any other car if you don't take care if it so spend the money when it's due for services The car IS a SLK 320 in a Chrysler suit. It's simply the price you have to pay for this special car. It's worth every dime in my opinion.

I bought a 100K + example in February...paid just under $10K!

Re: Why no used X's over 100k miles?

Good luck with the search, I bought mine back in March to replace my GG Silverado 1500 HD... only had 21k on it then, now almost 27k. But then again I have to drive around 75 miles a day for work. So far no issues!

You might want to check at the local dealers, I went to trade in my truck and the salesman said "you wouldn't be interested in a low mileage MB Kompressor would you? it is in your price range for payments et al..." (And this dealership owns the only Chrysler francise for my region; go figure!) - Tim

Re: Why no used X's over 100k miles?

Expensive to maintain is the key. If you have 100K on your Crossie you have spent beaucoups bucks keeping it on the road and are less willing to part with it. The bad news is almost every high mileage car on the market has deferred maintenance.

P.S. regarding tires -- premature wear is almost always due to incorrect suspension, and most of the rest are due to "performance" tire selection. Fix those and you will have no more wear problems.

My 2004 has 133k on it. I bought it with 128k. You just gotta keep looking, because they come cheap(er) once they climb that high.

Well, if you're willing to wait a bit, I'll probably hit 100,000 around the end of this year. I just past 80,000 the other day.

Mine has 110k miles (I converted from klm's for the Rebel alliance). Not self destructing any time soon I hope. Looks like she will go another 100. Not daily driving due to having a company car now so it will take a while longer.

Rebel Alliance = Non Imperial for those who missed the Star Wars Ref.
