Tire sensor
 

This is the third time this has happened. I take off early in the morning, and the tire sensor on the dash will light up. After driving the car for awhile, it goes off. What's that all about?

Is the car setting the tire pressure for the sensor? It kinda makes me nervous since I don't have a spare (umm, no room for it).

it may be that when you start off on a cool morning that one or more tires have significantly lower pressure than they should have, or have pressures that vary quite a bit from the other tires. as the tires heat up a bit from driving, the tire pressures increase and the light will typically go off.

first, try checking your tire pressures when the tires are cool. make sure they are set to the correct pressure. tire pressures increase by roughly 1 psi for every 10 deg F increase in temp. your morning temps in sacramento might be less than 60F in the morning but rise to 100F or more in the afternoon. if your tire pressures are say 32 psi on a hot afternoon when your car has been sitting, you might expect tire pressures to drop to as little as 26 psi overnight. tire pressures in that range or below will set off the low pressure indicator. make sure your tire pressures are adjusted to the recommended values in the morning or at night after the car has been sitting for at least an hour.

Thanks for all the advise. I will have hubby check them in the morning. If I remember right...the fronts should be 32 pounds and the backs 33, does that sound right? :D

That is correct Cruiser....you can find the pressures at the door plate on the drivers side in the area of the strike plate.

The sensors seem to be pretty sensitive....mine was on the other day and all four tires were 3 lbs low according to my digital gauge ;-)

I'm glad we don't have the tire monitor in the UK. sounds like it causes you guys a lot of problems.

Saldous, I'm glad we have it. Just wished it told me which tire was low. So really, it's a good thing. Just have to get use to it :)

The tire pressure monitoring system rocks :o = mine were about 2 psi off for all tires! It was not until exactly 33 psi for rear and 32 psi for front that the code shut down (and I mean exactly).

That tire pressure monitoring system amazes me. I can't figure out how the tire tells the computer that pressure is low. I have one on my Town and Country and got a low tire indication on my monitor yesterday morning. One tire was down about 5 psi. It kills me to go to the gas station and pay 50 cents to BUY air.

leebea... the XF comes with an air compressor in the trunk. Another solution is to buy one for your garage. There is one out there in the auto stores for about $40.00 called TruckAir that a lot of us use when we go four wheeling. It's great for airing up the tires at home.

Checked my tires yesterday at 28 lbs all around and my check tire light never came on. It was probably about 3 months since my last check. I have one of those nifty digital lighted guages as well, measures to the 1/2 lb.

28# in the front set mine off too. i was expecting it to be much lower. the warning light was yellow. Does it change colors if the tire is severly low?

LOL...now that would be the icing on the cake....but no one color only....and since you don't have a spare I highly recommend to check as soon as it comes on.
