How many miles will I get out of my Xfire tyres?

I collected my Xfire last Saturday and I'm loving it so far.

Those tyres look expensive!

How long will they last and how much do they cost?

I'd say if you go around the world once that you'll need some new ones.

Thanks guys but I'm in the UK, hence my spelling (Tyres) not tires.

Just passed 14k miles have 5mm left on all 4 shoes (1.6mm legal limit)
DCUK do not have stock of them at dealers so beware!

bonsterbum 07-28-2004 06:28 PM

melcragg, don't know which tires you've chosen, but i have the conti-touring and have just shy of 23K mi on them and honestly, there is 3/4 of the original tread left and they look new and are still handling great (just a little more road noise than when i took delivery last october).

they've handled well over the winter too (in reasonable PA/MD/DC snow, but of course, anything else beyond 4-5 inches...i say, work from home!). humor aside, i also didn't hesitate to pick up an extra set of the same conti-touring tires when a fellow forum member offered his originals at a great deal since he preferred something else.

take care and safe travels :) bonster (alabaster autostick)

I've got the Michelin Pilot S2s and at 23K, they've still got another 4K at least to go, according to the America's Tire (Discount Tires) guy.

Happy driving! :)

Melcragg,

The problem we have in the UK is not the tyre price, but their availability.

Most tyre places I have contacted indicate a 3 day delivery once I place an order. Must admit, I have checked with National, Kwiq-Fit etc. Might find that a performance car specialist would have then in stock.

You can get a discount if you order and buy on-line. National will e-mail you quotes for the different tyres. Included one below:

QUOTE REFERENCE: NT0TY40469

Notice to Customer; please print off this quotation and present it to the branch manager to claim a further 10% discount off all car tyres, exhausts and batteries as listed in the special offers. This must be presented prior to purchase as no discount will be honoured after a transaction has been processed.
Notice to Branch Managers; please contact Leigh Melling on 0161 429 1383 quoting the reference number above with any queries relating to product specification or pricing on the quotation below. Ensure that you verify the customer's requirements and check prices before commencing work. Please use DV9 to allocate discount.

Michelins are 170 but check out the price of those Goodyears.

Also, most of these dealers will only balance the wheel and tyre to 100 mph, as that is the limit of their machines.

english_bob,

I was expecting at least 400 a corner. Mind you the prices above are for the fronts.

I'll go on line and get a price for those rear tyres...

Thanks for the info! Mel

I've got the Michelins and even tossing the car around and autocross course twice a month they are wearing much better than I thought they would. I've got 10K miles on the car and the tires still look great. I think I will get somewhere around 25 - 30K. So if you don't torture your tires, like I do, I would expect you will get around 40K.

Wes, you do not torture your car... you DRIVE your car. To torture this car would be quite the oposite. This car was designed to be driven (hard)... and that is just how it should be driven.

WesMichaels 07-29-2004 01:17 PM

I agree whole heartedly that to keep the car garaged and only drive it in parades would be torturing it. :D

The torture I was talking about was just the tires. I am pretty rough on them. But they too where meant to be driven hard. If not DC would have put Uniroyal Tiger Paws on it. Not Z rated performance tires. :D
