I think all manufactors have issues.Besides the crossfire is all BENZ.

BobaFettm 08-16-2004 07:54 PM

LOL!! Look at Ford... does anyone remember the Explorer? BOOM FLIP CRASH?!... Chrysler faces the problems all car manufactures do...

but like Dan said... Our car isnt DC... its Benzo! :)

drunkiq 08-16-2004 08:28 PM

Agreed,

Even the fabled Toyota/Lexus does not live up to it's reputation. This is my favorite of the manufactures that has convinced people over time that it is of high quality. They have the same engine sludge (design problem) that the page you linked to speak about... Yep, they still use these poor excuses of engines in thier cars... - even motortrend will tell you to make sure when you shop for one that it does not have the problem...

The worst one was Mistubishi. They covered up everything for years in leiu of doing recalls.

Worst car company IMO ... was the joint operation between Mitsu and Chrysler... my Eagle Vision is horrid... dead trans at like 40k miles... tons of braking problems... engine... body problems... everything :(

I'll never trust Eagle cars :(

read some of it and it looks like pretty typical lawyer stuff. allege everything as loudly as possible and settle. didn't see anything new or worthwhile.

You know what's funny ... I some how came across that web page right before going to the dealer to purchase and it NEVER changed my mind. Like mentioned above = EVERY car/car company has a page like that, but ... to its equal will have a page of praise (well ... ok - some not all). I remember the day my good friend bought his 2k1 mitsu eclipse gt = we found this site one of the first days of ownership (you will crack up at the opening video  = check it out) www.deadeclipse.com

knowit 08-16-2004 09:54 PM

I will tell you as a former owner of a 2001 Eclipse GT , that the dead eclipses web site is right on. That car was the most expensive collection of scrap metal and plastic I have ever seen. I still visit the Mitsu boards just to see what is going on and am surprised to see the same problems I had with my Mitsushitty are the same ones owners of new 2004s are having. Some manufacturers learn from thier mistakes and others dont care.

I don't care what that site says. The engine dropping in our '95 concorde saved my brother's life.

Sunny9850 08-17-2004 01:48 AM

I never gave any credence to any of these sites....they are pretty much all the same and a little googeling will find one for every car ever made. Even if it's just supported by one nutcase/unlucky SOB who happened to get the 1 100% crappy car.

The only car company where no problems were reported was RR, in the old days at least before the VW/BMW purchase disaster/comedy. They'd just fix EVERYTHING that ever went wrong on one of their handcrafted coaches no questions asked.....of course the purchase price was somewhat higher than $30K too :D

As far as Lemons go...every company/model has it's share. To me the important thing is how the company/dealer corrects things.

Personally I have never had one....even though I had
or still have:

1. 1981 Alfa Romeo GTV 625.....they are supposed to rust and never work electrically...:D I fixed the admittedly scratchy 5-speed gearbox (partially caused by Alfas revolutionary drivetrain layout, by installing a 6 speed ZF gear box...which is slightly less scratchy and has that additional gear to make up for it :D
2. 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l ....trannys supposed to fail as you pull out of the lot...mine never needed anything other than Gas/Oil Changes in 79000 miles.
3. 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l ...see above and add tons of electrical gremmlins......mine had neither. Just got too pricey at the pump :-(

I own an Explorer and it's Great!! I have 130k on it and it runs and handles perfectly, for an SUV. It's a '99 and I haven't had a single problem with it. It's one of the very few vehicles I've owned that I can say that about. :D IMO too many people buy SUVs and think they can drive a high center of gravity vehicle like a Miata.... It doesn't work that way. It's a truck... not a sports car. :D

I see the Mercedes SLK is in the top three in its class. That's a xfire, of course.

David Burns 08-19-2004 12:25 AM

What I find interesting in above is taken together D/C has 302 problems per 100 cars (3 per car, yikes!). Yet taken separately, only 285 per 100 cars for Chrysler and 327 per 100 cars for M/B. Hmmm...Benz "quality" doesn't seem to be helping D/C as a whole...

I'm trying to figure out what my 3.02 or 2.85 or 3.27 problems are...
